Because you people were being stupid. Notice how you hardly ever post here, but I post here a fair bit? Notice how I have discussions with people here but not "fights", even when there's strong disagreement? Notice how hardly anyone on these forums is as massive a cunt as on those forums, because those forums are just FAF 2.0? Notice how they have about half the people actually posting they used to? I attack stupid people. It's what I have always done. It's what I always will do. And you have been following me from forum to forum for several years trying to tell me I shouldn't, or that I'm a bad guy for it, or stupid for it, or whatever. And I never bother listening, because I don't have to. What is your obsession with me as a person, that's what I want to know. Seriously, ever since FAF I've disliked you in a way I don't normally dislike just some random teenager with some genderbending gimmick, which I normally don't even think of as a reason to dislike you because I don't normally follow people around critiquing them like that's not a pretty creepy, stalkerish thing to do.

Only you Ashley, and like one hand's worth of other people. You need bigger and better shit for your opinion to count, to me. Just, stop trying harder, do better, collab on something with DrunkCat. By the way I'm reporting both of you because I'm sick and tired of the harassment and that's exactly what, and all it is.

Inb4 you try to turn it around and say you're "helping" me see the error of my ways or a similar, bold-faced crock of shit.

    edit: Oh, by the way...

This is just an example of what I mean. You got one or possibly two people here trying to shit up this forum just to continue a pointless beef from another with one, single, unimportant person and making someone else not want to post. And the only reason is because I happen to dislike one of the forums they're on, or rather, that's the justification for just starting shit and making everything personal. It's what ruins every forum. It typically doesn't happen that often here. That's why I believe in this, but not FAF or its successor, or a good deal of the furry fandom. Like with the art aspect of the site, it seems to be more concerned with quality than quantity. All anyone else seems to want to do is clog up the internet more than it already is with their high school bullshit.

What I typically post like here isn't too different from how I started out posting on FAF, and then people like Ashley rolled in to, obviously, make it and the forum all about them, and that's why, indeed, I took massive shits on that forum and its successor for being an even worse example of it than the original.

Nothing can just be an opinion to them. No one can just agree to disagree. Everything must be personal, and it must be a battle. And then they wonder why I battle. I battle them, but really, I just want to battle what they stand for and more appropriately, what they don't stand for: anything remotely good or positive or healthy or constructive. They try to act like there's something wrong with this, or that I'm wrong in my assertions, but never seem to be able to respond to disagreement with anything but, what, appeals to emotion? More of the same? One-liners they pulled out of their ass that minute?

Some of us want to be on a forum, others want to be on a cartoon or soap opera or reality show. Literally every clash you see me get into with most people stems from that. It always has. I'm just sick of playing that stupid fucking game anymore because I have a life now.

I read every word... nice work, WolfBone. As always, not afraid to say what you want to say. What you need to say. Not at all hard to understand.

Nanowrimo is next month. Anyone writing a novel? This will be my first attempt, so I'm pretty excited about it.

I'll probably use it to write out my comic, I suck at writing actual books. :/

    All these walls of salt!

This place is even more quiet than it used to be. But surely people remaining have been having interesting lives, right? Right? ?

So - what's everyone been up to?

Bottom up is probably the best way to think about it. I wish more furries would use their minds though; FA still being active is because of herd mentality. There's really nothing to stay on FA for except the population and popular artists. Take the popular artists out and it's like pulling out the Jenga piece that makes the whole thing topple over. I want to believe that FA's userbase has the critical thinking needed to know when it's time to abandon ship, but Dragoneer's past fuck-ups only proved the opposite to be true. If there isa straw that will break the camel's back, I think it would have to be something absolutely unforgivable but even then there will still be those that kiss his ass.

For the brief time I was on Phoenix, all I saw was two things: it was mostly the same people with even less motive to pretend to be anything other than the sum of their addled, broken parts now that there isn't as much pressure to conform to anyone or anything external to the pre-existing groupthink of the old forum. But the other, more telling thing was this. I was only the 421st member to join the forum in, um, how long as it been around at this point? It did gain a few members in that short window, yes, but that's still paltry compared to its old userbase. What happened to all that hype that the fallout of FAF had generated and, you'd think, should have given the new forums the momentum any new project needs? Do you seriously think seeing someone as relatively innocuous as me get banned with not even anything but the weakest lip service to a warning really instills that much confidence in anyone who just saw that, at least anyone with any of the kinds of controversial opinions and unorthodox writing styles that kind of medium should not just welcome, but embrace if it wants hype and the activity it generates? A massive echo chamber of about 500 people or less in several months is not a great amount of progress, you know?
I've never been on Phoenix nor FAF because of how ass-backwards FA itself is, so I can't say anything about how it is now or how FAF was before it caved in; I just watch the slow collapse from a distance.

...there isn't as much pressure to conform to anyone or anything external to the pre-existing groupthink of the old forum. Can you explain this point to me? The way it's written might be confusing me.

I only lay into them in particular as heavy as I do because there, that was supposed to be our example of how FAF could be different this time. And I still believe, if nothing else, it was an effort on some people's part. FA proper really just wants to rest on its laurels and that damns giant megacorps to eventual obscurity and irrelevance. FA is an online club. It's not even a social network in the mainstream sense of the word. And I get that it totally wants to be "maverick", or something, but everyone eventually bows to the mainstream, out of sheer necessity if nothing else. One day, the shit will have to evolve or go offline as the very architecture of the internet as a whole outstrips its ability to even exist on it. It's simply a matter of time. Time, it seems, dwindles rapidly for things these days. That's why I'm not that confident, even beyond all the social problems at play because all the "friends" in the world clapping their hands and believing doesn't change certain cold, hard realities about the world they live in.
I understand; from what you're saying it sounds like Phoenix fell flat on it's face trying to be what FAF couldn't.

I'm with you about the site having to adapt or collapse, technology is always changing and if they aren't going to adapt to it then they can kiss the site goodbye. Considering that FA's coders are infamous for dragging their feet, that might be the thing that brings FA down if the userbase doesn't develop individual thinking before that happens. It took FA about three or so odd years to switch to SSL logins after Dragoneer's account got hijacked on a public network; if the coders had even the slightest bit of competence then that issue would have been taken care of within a week or two if that. That incident was funny, but it should have been a warning for FA to get it's shit together. I don't even think the site is that secure now, and if I'm right it will come as no surprise.

If I've been doing one stupid thing for my part it's putting all my eggs in one basket only to dump them in another. We, almost all of us at least, seem to be guilty of this to some extent. Like, I find it very easy to justify investing time and effort into posting here and on the rest of Weasyl (I just like the fact I can consider them two parts of a whole instead of two fundamentally different beasts like with FA/FAF) for some very good reasons. The fact I can talk about my own possible, future death/suicide and be treated like a still normal person for it instead of like a criminal and a pariah like on FA. The fact I can talk about anything period without everyone assuming the worst just because they pretty much are the worst themselves. It's a critically different vibe, and the vibe is what a community thrives or implodes on. It runs pretty consistently, stays stable, has a few bugs here and there that at least people in charge acknowledge and don't make constant excuses for, and for those reasons the minute there's things to draw people here, they come. I believe they will begin to stay as FA continues to degrade further, and others will fuck off to places like Pheonix and the no-frills fuckbuddy sites where they probably ought to have started in the first place.
I know I'm guilty of that. I do like that Weasyl doesn't feel like a club of sorts; it's accepting but I feel that the community has limits to what it will accept. There was a diaperfur that joined a while ago and anyone with two brain cells could tell that people didn't exactly like that the person in question introduced themselves with their kink. Kurk pointed out before that the furry fandom being so inclusive is one of it's biggest vices, and I don't point that out just in reference to "exotic" fetishes. The community isn't the kind that praises people that start drama and fling bullshit around like so many people did and still do on FA. When FA finally collapses, I'm hoping that the atmosphere here will deter the brainless morons that will end up searching for something like FA.

I have begun hunting around for other spots though and I remember F2F had its own issue with a deadbeat sketchbag running the place. What killed that is he literally just vanished one day and didn't even try to tell anyone what was going on. Someone did try to revive it and I know the Facebook group I joined for it still gets some activity so I'll have to see how that went. But I see other forums and sites sitting there with there late 90's graphics and like 30 registered users since 2009 or whenever they began and, yeah, do not want.
    F2F?

I can't see Dragoneer abandoning FA because of how much money is in it and how big it is.

Sadly, find a fuck buddy and start a cult bizarre living arrangement with your furry "friends" seems to be the main motive for most so the truth may be those shallow, pornoriffic sites might be the entire endgame of the majority of the fandom.
I can see that happening. The furry fandom is full of people who are just looking for someone to stroke their kielbasa, so if FA goes offline that's probably what will happen to them.

Sorry if I don't seem like a good person to have a discussion with, I haven't really been in a lot of serious discussions let alone in any about the furry fandom.

Me and a team of scientists had to drill into the core of the earth to reset the flow, or else the world would die. It was a fun afternoon.

I've had an outline for a story laying around for months, a revamp of a story my husband and I have been writing for pretty much as long as we've known each other. Every so often, we just start over with it. Same characters and setting, slightly different circumstances and backgrounds. Right now we're using the same set of characters in different stories, so I'm soloing the revamp this time.

Dude, Wolf-bone, this was your first post in phoenix and you didn't expect hostility?
A lot of people started over with clean slates, you chose not to. That's on you.
