Actually, I don't think that straight guys come to the fandom for dating, usually. For heaven sake, have you seen how misogynistic the portrayal of females is in the porn? They're not coming to find a date. They're coming to fap, or maybe they just want to roleplay. Some of them might actually admire the writing, which delves often into tricky philosophical issues that other writers are terrified to even touch.

But heck, it's not hard to find a lady who loves art. You just have to actually have talent. Believe me, if you have a beautiful acrylic painting hanging over your mantle with your John Hancock on it, a lady who has never met a furry before will probably find it fascinating, rather than repellent. She would probably admire the fact that you had the ability to create it. Even if it were not your own work, she would respect the fact that you have an eye for worth.

Seriously, do you think it's going to make you more repellent than a gun-enthusiast? Or what about men who collect rusted junk? What about men who hammer all day on carpentry projects? And how about men who think they're landscape architects or renovators? Women get it: men like to have their hobbies. They forgive you. Just show that you are a tasteful person with a beautiful mind, and demonstrate how your furry interest enhances you in that respect.

Well, I guess it's a matter of opinion, but I always found the real artistic virtues of the fandom to be in the writing. I'm starting to become more appreciative of the visual arts, though.

For me, the writing is really the first thing that comes to mind. Furry writing often envisions strange and wonderful alternate worlds. It delves into complicated metaphysical issues. Often, a good story in the furry style can turn your entire concept of the universe clear on its head. Even the erotica often follows this tradition. Early on, I fell in love with the transformation story authors, and much of the work in the transformation sub-genre can be found on the Shifti website, where I give the Winds of Change writings a strong recommendation.

I apologize if I seemed to be dismissive of the visual arts, though. I'm only slowly starting to really develop my appreciation for that aspect.
