Antara strained himself but was unable to locate any life beyond that of he and his fellows and some of the assorted fungi growing in the cracks between the stones. Antara became quickly frustrated by his limited vision in the huge chamber. It was one thing for him to be in a dark room but seeing the borders of the light slowly fade into darkness set his teeth on edge.

Realizing that if something did attack he may not have time to draw on his power, Antara drew his dagger. It was of ordinary make, without even slight embellishment to make it more appealing. Antara held it tightly in his left hand. His plan was to use it to fend off a threat long enough that he might be able to cast.

Eliizer took a few steps and suddenly seemed on edge. His eyes darted around before giving a grunt of frustration. He motioned to his orb and it flew in closer to him before he made a flinging motion and it flew outward, far in front of him. There was movement of something skittering. It scraped along the stone and quickly went out of the light. There was more skittering and scraping from all sides and soon there were piercing red eyes staring down the party. Dark bodies with a light sheen could be made out, beginning to home in and converge.

"We are not alone!" Eliizer shouted and took a few steps back.
"I know what these are! They shouldn't be here... not near the opening."
He said with frustration as he looked to Krebbic and Talix.
"You two, take point! I'm not leaving but, considering what we are up against, I have to take the ceiling." He said as he ran over to the nearest column. He began to scale it rapidly but stopped midway.
"These are mechanical scorpions! Contraptions designed to kill. Their pincers can chop limbs clean off but their tails are most dangerous! Avoid their stingers at all costs. Their poison will kill you!"

Since the group had entered the Pylonnosis ruins Quintin had appeared pensive and had been decidedly tight-lipped. Early on he was making anxious noises in his throat which he attempted to suppress in hopes the others would not hear his mixed whimper/growls.

The guard had his hand on his sword way before Eliizer used the orb to reveal one of the lurking scorpions. He growled as he drew his sword and stood defensively in front of Rashid, even taking a few steps forward to be closer to Mei and motioning the rat to follow. He took his eyes away from the threat for a second though as Eliizer broke rank and climbed a column.

"Ye'r leadership's a loada tosh if'n ya leave us to die!" He yelled at Eliizer and turned to brandish his weapon at the climbing gecko.

    __________________________________________________ ___________

Eliizer paused a moment and glared down at the impetuous guard.

"I'm trying to save us from being overwhelmed!" He shouted back with an unsual ferocity as he started climbing once again.

He was fast, very fast. He scrambled up to the ceiling and was just above and then ahead of the group's position on the ground. Sure enough, there were mechanical scorpions on the ceiling. Their metal legs holding fast to the stone. The machines were going to either drop down on top of the group's unsuspecting heads or even clamber down the columns to surround them. Eliizer was immediately outnumbered with three of the artificial monstrosities paced apart and moving in to attack. He had the one advantage of them being much slower having to clamp and lock onto the ceiling with each step. The gecko skittered to the right trying to attract their attention away from the group and thankfully they followed after him.

Quintin grumbled as he watched Eliizer reach the ceiling but he did turn back to fight the oncoming threat instead of challenging the gecko again.

Talix thought he had heard a consistent growl of uneasiness behind him, but thought it was simply his mind playing tricks on him. He had glanced back, finally deciding to check on what was causing the sound, and it appeared to be coming from Quintin. Just as he was about to make a snide remark, Eliizer made a sudden look ahead...

Talix readied himself to fight the incoming arthropods, however, when it was mentioned that they were mechanical, he took more of a defensive stance.
"One does not have to know much about mechanical constructs to know that a sword will be useless against them," he remarked as he looked on at the approaching horde, "poison, on the other hand, I can handle. Krebbic! I'm on the defensive, I shall be aiding you with magic!"
The knight held his sword with both hands in front of him, the blade end pointed and resting on the ground perfectly vertical, his heavy steel shield still equipped on his right arm. He stood straight and took a breath. If one didn't know any better, they could easily confuse him for a bizarre looking statue. He than began a chant, "Earthen spirits, bless us with your power."
After a few seconds, his body began to glow a faint amber. He thrust his right arm outward, pointing toward Krebbic.
    "Knight's Constitution!"
The amber light swirled around from the knight to the large lizard. The spell gives off a sensation of healthiness, granting a small resistance to earth and acid based attacks, and small resistances to toxins and disease.
Talix took on his casting stance again, "Spirits of earth, protect us from harm."
And again after a few seconds, he directed the amber glow towards Krebbic,
    "Stone Armor!"
The spell made his body tougher to withstand attacks a little bit easier.
Talix exhaled, "I hope that helps! I shall be right behind you!"
He began to quickly think of a plan and looked around the area, making sure to cover Krebbic's sides and back once they start to engage, his shield up.

(Talix is looking for a large slab of loose stone or boulder. He wants to gather the scorpions up and create a ditch in the ground beneath them with another spell of his. Krebbic could then crush all those trapped within the ditch with the stone or boulder assuming the scorpions don't climb out fast enough. The problem is Talix has never cast this spell under pressure before, and it's a rather intensive spell when channeling to shift large amounts of earth at a time. This will tire him out for a bit.)

Krebbic saw the giant metal scorpions skitter towards the group, and he hesitated. The sound of their feet clanking against the floor grated his earholes, and made him tense up his muscles. Those little ones in particular seemed they could move from wall to wall in the blink of an eye; that didn't help matters either.

The croc looked towards Talix as the knight extended his hand and said his magic words. His muddy green and black scales glew with a subtle light that gradually got brighter by the second. He looked at his hands and his arms, and his breathing got even more tense, but he calmed down and let the magic flow though him. He felt alive and energetic, so he hopped around on each leg to stretch his muscles as far as his bulky body would let him.

With a newfound strength, Krebbic stepped forward with a deep laugh of gratitude and focused his attention on the whole area in front of his teammates. He knew at any moment, the scorpions would just rush down towards them and reach their massive pincers to pin down their kill. The croc started by crouching and resting his whole weight on the balls of his feet, then he held out his arms at a reasonable distance. Krebbic's stance should prepare him to use his massive weight effectively should the scorpions target those in the front line.

Mei made a high-pitched 'squee' noise and the fur on the scruff of her neck stood straight up at the sight of the mechanical scorpions. She HATED arachnids. Her eyes darted anxiously from their pincers, to the legs, to their stinger and back. She took a deep breath to steady her nerves, drawing her scythes at the same time, which quickly brought her back to her senses. She sniffed the air, trying to gauge the enemy...

Mechanical... I smell nothing organic about these things. She glanced at her scythe blades, shimmering without the aid of light. These are sharp.. VERY sharp.. I wonder how rusty these old scorpions really are.. Her memory flashed back to previous training sessions; the gouges that her blades managed to carve into a boulder of solid granite. However, the enemy might be enchanted as well... It's worth a shot, but they are still out of range. I don't want to risk hitting Krebbic or Talix.

Her ears began to pick up a faint 'drip... drip...' coming from the left of the party. She glanced at the source and flung her light orb to get a better look. Water was seeping through the ceiling, creating a small pool before it seeped back through the cracks of the floor. An idea flashed through her mind. She closed her eyes, focusing her mind and relaxing her body. She reached out towards the water, tugging at the molecules with an invisible force. Small globules began to rise and shoot rapidly through the air towards her body, stopping inches in front of her hand. Her eyes opened, emitting a bright green glow from her efforts. She continued the pull until the puddle was drained. A large globule hovered at her side, roughly three feet in diameter. "Not enough." She said faintly.

Focusing harder, she reached both arms toward the moist ground where the puddle once was. Her hands formed two claws as her arms began to shake slightly. Slowly, gradually, more water began to seep upwards from underneath the stone and add to her collection. Her large globule became larger. Her legs shook slightly from the weight of the water. She cut the flow of energy to to ground and focused on what water she had. The glob split into two, four, eight, sixteen smaller orbs, each about ten inches in diameter and began to slowly circle around her body. She took another deep breath, regaining some of her strength that was just expended. Her bright, glowing eyes focused towards Eliizer. "Ready!" She barked.

(Should her scythes fail to pierce the armor, she will resort to trying to slow their movements by coating them with water and drawing all heat away from it to freeze them in place. Hopefully long enough to damage them, or for someone else to damage them with another method)

There are five large scorpions and three smaller ones approaching the group. Each are incredibly durable and menacing looking. They seem designed to eliminate intruders without pause or any form of mercy.

All of them paused, watchful as Talix cast magic to bolster Krebbic. They seemed to analyze what was happening on some base level. The five larger stayed their movements a moment. The three smaller ones approached rapidly all attacking Krebbic at once!
They'll approach in a formation of one in the front and the other two will try to flank on either side. They will have a much faster reaction time than the gator so expect to take some damage.

The larger ones all eyed Mei for just a moment before three of them broke off to rush her, attempting to go around both Krebbic and Talix. A fourth struck out after Talix directly. The fifth waited, back to watching Krebbic as he was being attacked.

Within moments the three small scorpions were already jumping and launching themselves at Krebbic. The front one first and the other two just another moment or two after once they hit their positions on either side of their larger combatant. Each of them had their pincers ready to grapple and gouge at the poor reptile.

The three larger will push past Talix and Krebbic and make an attempt to overpower Mei if their tactic of keeping the two front runners busy succeeds.

Quintin growled ferociously as he saw the group getting sectioned off. He couldn't stick back with the merchant and the human mage. He had to act!
"RASHID! Stick yer claws ta this 'er column an' cling to it like it's yer mum's teat!" He barked.
The rat blinked and his eyes bulged indignantly but he slipped past the guard and did as he was told. He clung to the side and slipped more to the back so he could avoid the fight.

"Antara, stay back an' launch anythin' ya can ta weaken them or slow 'em down but bugger off with Rashid if they come this way, get me?"
He ran off before Antara could protest.

The dingo-headed guard swung his sword up and touched two fingers to it.
    "Aratama, Koit." He said softly.
Some scrawling magical script sparked and lit up down his blade from where his fingers touched.
"Kaotage see võitlus on mõttetu võidelda koit. Koit, võtke viha taevas!"He chanted the last bit and the evocation made a crackling electric energy swath the blade. Within a moment he closed the distance between him and Mei to be by her side.
"Vihane tormi streik nüüd!" He shouted and his sword's gathered energy sent out a branching bolt of electricity. The bolt hit one of the approaching scorpions directly and the other closest to it suffered some discharge! The one struck directly jittered and its legs went limp, dropping it to the stones. The other lurched but it kept it kept moving after a short pause.

"By yer side, love." He said with a wink.
He gave a rumble of frustration though when the scorpion he struck recovered and stood back up trying to reestablish its bearings.
    __________________________________________________ _______________________

Eliizer skittered across the ceiling and moved toward the scorpions slowly to see how they would react. He was not the only one assessing battle, it seemed. The three large ones fighting him stayed still a moment as he approached, an intense look of processing their combatant registered in their glowing eyes. The gecko realized there was little he could do if he got closer for melee. Actual fighting would be limited with him having to have at least one foot and one hand attaching him to the ceiling. There were times he could hold by one foot or hand but only for a few moments.

The gecko knew what he had to do. He moved in closer to get reactions, even brushing the threat range of all three. The heavy machines swiped with pincers and tails. Thankfully he could press away just enough to stay out of contact but it had him in a cold sweat as they tried to get to him. He stayed close just long enough to get them directed only on him and began to edge away toward the wall on the far right, yards away from the group's position on the ground. He then pointed his sword to a nearby column and there was a burst as the loaded mechanism inside of it shot the hefty blade out into the stone with a clang. A metal cord drew him away just as the scorpions were trying to launch another attack on him. Incensed at him getting away they went as fast as they could to make it to the column and down it.

As they rushed over he reached in his pockets and withdrew a cylindrical device. He stuck it in the grooves of the column near the top where it met with the ceiling. As the scorpions reached the column and began their descent after him he was already down at the base getting away. The cylinder burst and an acidic ooze cascaded against the column and the scorpions. There was a violent reaction as the acid ate through both the stone and the metal. The column collapsed near the top and more sections toppled, dropping the scorpions from their holds. They crashed down in blast of dust and clanging, scraping metal. There was no pause as all three tried to flip back over or recover. Two got up, lumbering and lurching from damage, but still after Eliizer. The third was crushed under too much debris and though it was functional enough to struggle it could not get free. The acid damage and weight were bending and crushing it slowly. Soon it stopped moving. The other two were also much weaker from the acid damage. Their outer armor had been severely compromised.

Talix was looking for anything in the room that he could use to the group's advantage. He spotted what seems to be a lower half of a statue as well as a column to the left, about four yards away from where he stood, just as the scorpions began to make their advance. His plan to create a ditch began to prove less viable as the enemy drew closer, but perhaps he could topple that statue for Krebbic to use as a bludgeoning weapon. He started to focus on the base of the statue and managed to crack it after a second or two, but stopped once the first of the smaller scorpions were upon Krebbic, and noticed that the other two were going for a flank on the reptile. Talix was a bit shaken after a few seconds of channeling his spell, but he managed to pull himself together and cover Krebbic's left.
"Dammit, I won't have the time to cast if they are close like this..."
"That statue can topple over with one nice push! Krebbic, I have your left! Let us move forward and fight towards that statue!" he sounded slightly winded.
A larger scorpion was coming for him as well, but Talix did not budge. He put up his shield and prepared to fend off the attack and counter with a shield bash if possible.
"The other scorpions might get by us! Stay alert everyone!" he called out to the party in the back.

He hopes not to become overwhelmed blocking incoming attacks from two sources, but...

The three poisonous scorpions proved to be much too fast for Krebbic and Talix to get away unharmed. So he focused solely on the one in front of him and Talix. As the front one jumped on the crocodile, he threw a giant punch towards the thing, hoping to send it flying towards its acid-covered friends. There was nothing he could do about the one coming from the side, though, so he accepted whatever sort of pain might befall him.

Mei was intensely focused on the approaching scorpions, eyes darting back and forth between the three approaching her and the two going after the front line. She felt a slight pulse of magical energy coming from behind her. She spared a split second to glance over her shoulder at Quintin. Her eyes widened as the blade in the dingo's hand lit up and began crackling. He DID mention his mother was a witch.. maybe she taught him a thing or two. She turned her attention back to the scorpions just as the bolt of electricity hit the oncoming enemy.

Mei grinned at Quintin as he dashed to her side. She moved her hovering water orbs so they didn't accidentally hit him. "That could come in handy..." she said, her mind racing with new possibilities. "NO TIME!" She yelled as one of the scorpions at the front line went straight for Krebbic's back.

In a split second, Mei sent four of her orbs straight at the machine, splitting them mid-flight to cover every vital joint in water. She closed her eyes and shut off her mind to all distractions. Reaching deeply, she could feel the heat from every source in the room... her companions.. the water.. the faint heat emitted from the machine's gears... she flung an orb in front of her, reached her right paw out, and began to channel whatever heat she could from the water on the machine, the air surrounding it, and the machine itself, into the orb in front of her. Heat transfer spent little energy when done slowly, but the speed required in combination with continuing the other twelve orbs' suspension caused her whole arm to shake from the effort. She was attempting to freeze the machine, or at least slow it down so Krebbic had time to react. The orb in front of her began to boil and evaporate from the heat.

She yelped as she remembered the other three machines. If that didn't save Krebbic, there wasn't much more she could do at the moment. She didn't have time to try to freeze the scorpions as they closed in. Her scythes were out in a flash. They arced high over her head and slammed down in a precise blow to the lead scorpion's stinger, sending a shockwave that rippled the water floating around her. She began panting from the effort... Please let this buy us some time!
