    Uhm.

The point is to practice off of real things. Not someone else's drawings.

I'm guessing that you are trying to find the exact angle of an animal for a drawing that you want to make? So for example you have a drawing of the head pointing this way so you need to find a photo of a wolf pointing it's head in the same way?

As an artist that won't really happen. You'll need to understand the 3D form of an object by looking at reference and then reinventing the 3D form through your own construction drawings. From there you can draw that object from any angle you want. That's why learning how to draw simple geometric shapes is so important, because that's what you'll be creating your characters on top of.

Nothing wrong with mechanic pencil. Also I kind of prefer ball-point pen for sketching as it doesn't smear and it forces me to be confident about my line work and not erase all the time.

I wouldn't worry too much about shading at this point. I know amazing artists who can't shade worth crap and I still love their art.

I love mechanical pencils. They're great for fine points. Also it's possible to shade with them too. Pretty much any pencil is good for almost anything if you practice enough with it.

They're not that expensive. I'd just get one of those bigger erasers since they last longer.
