You weren't talking to me, but I do have evidence. Mainly because I think I'm th eonly one who cared to get it back when this first became an issue.

But the thing I said before still stands: Weasyl CLAIMS it's a general site, but seems to still ONLY market itself as a furry site. Lying by omission is still lying. So why is it that when Weasyl only caters to furries, it denies itself as being a furry site?

Personally I think they gave up the goal of a general art site by this point. I have tried and tried to advertise Weasyl to my general art friends. They all basically went "too much furry porn, I don't like being a minority" and didn't bother.

If Weasyl wants to be a general art site, it needs to back up its claims.

It also needs one thing, that I suggested a year ago, and Weasyl still hasn't seemed to do: ADVERTISING.

Weasyl didn't make itself a furry only site. The users did that and the site staff don't really have the power to change that.

    I agree completely with advertising.

I know these aren't really high but the difference can be seen in almost every single piece I have in both galleries. It was extremely surprising when I noticed the trend.
Hows the ratio of favs and comments?
My stuff gets 2-3 times more views here, but I'll actually get comments/favs on FA.

Faves have been the same across the board oddly enough. I do get more comments on FA but I tend to get much more thoughtful and well written comments here on Weasyl. I might get one comment on a picture but it's a paragraph or two of fairly useful critique which I find more valuable then "That's cool!". Not they they are unappreciated, it's just critique for me is so useful.

Voicing your concern in an arrogant, scolding manner compared to a constructive and helpful one isn't helping either.

Even if you are right in something, this is not the way to deliver it.

In the meanwhile I managed to find more info and I posted a new reply based on that, see: https://forums.weasyl.com/vbulletin/...ll=1#post80093

But still thank you for your reply! I genuinely had no clue until yesterday.

But in the end, consider this:
    - The vast majority of Weasyl users are furries
    - The vast majority of art is fury/anthro

So talking about strengthening Weasyl as a general art site because furry gets too strong is like telling Lamborghini that it must focus on strengthening their agricultural vehicle line because their sport cars are getting too strong.*

Thing sometimes change directions. Should Weasyl really try to swim against the current instead of riding it?

Weasyl became a furry art site **, like it or not, so the question is, what makes more sense: pissing against the wind and trying to turn it back into a general site (where it doesn't hold much ground against deviantArt anyway), or taking this never-returning opportunity to become the new Number 1 furry art site and ride to glory?

    * Lamborghini started out building tractors.
** As in content and suer wise, this still doesn't mean you couldn't upload general art.

An actual furry site would insist that most or all of your art be furry. Now a lot of furries are hanging their hat here, and this is fine, but I really hope that Weasyl never starts discouraging non-furry art or artists.

I like the idea of a more general themed site. Yerf and Artspots were furry sites that stressed quality anthro art that everyone could view, and both were actually fairly popular. They closed because of lack of interest on the part of the owners, which is one of the reasons why I'm think making any site your one and only art site is a really bad idea. Whether making Weasyl into a more general site is possible, or even desirable is up to the staff, and the users.

Who says that? Just because someone is a fury it doesn't mean they can't make and appreciate other forms of art.

We are not a separate race, we don't have some Secret Furry Law that dictates that we mustn't enjoy art in general.

I really hope that Weasyl never starts discouraging non-furry art or artists.
I think a furry art site that does such thing has a serious case of "stick up the arse". And I don't think Weasyl would do that.

Look, I'm member of the Furry community, I draw anthro, even 18+ and in the same time I'm into photography, literature and classical arts. Actually, I just uploaded a portrait of a human recently, which sits besides my anthro pics.

What we have right now is a natural balance, and I don't think we need to worry about it. Just keep on doing the art you do, upload it as before, and go on with life.

Because that is exactly how it works. When you make a site that is about any subject, you have restrictions on things that aren't relevant to that subject. Science fiction art sites insist you post science fiction art, Anime sites want anime, and if it's for cat fanciers, then your dog pictures go somewhere else.

FA requires that the art on your site be mostly anthro, and mostly art, rather make it an absolute requirement, but the restrictions are there. Start posting pictures of car shows, or trips to a war museum, and they will get pulled.

Weasyl has no such restrictions, so it is not a furry art site, but an art site that happens to have a lot of furries. Maybe a subtle difference to some, but an important one.

Ummm... I do not think posting galleries of car shows are really accepted on any art site? I mean accepted or cared by the community, not by rules.

However there are many generic artists on FA, and everyone is okay with them.

like or 003773 or Kamakru or (NSFW warning)meloki

just 3 examples I quickly though from head, but there are a lot of other artists like them, even more popular.

So do not worry about furries being around. You won't be an outcast or anything. We do like some fresh themes to our eyes, so we will provide an audience to you, furry art or not.

(sorry for awful english, im dead tired atm)

Actually pretty sure FA doesn't require anything to be mostly anthro. They're a furry site but they allow everything else as well as long as it goes with their rules.

General photos of car shows or trips to a museum will get pulled on most art sites, since they usually tend to be quick photos of things they came across. Things like that are probably better suited for facebook/instagram/flickr etc.
