I've heard people say that the sanding on them takes forever and I can believe that. Its taking me awhile to do and I'm not trying to get everything exactly smooth because I'm not gonna be casting it or anything.

This is how they're turning out so far. I started working on them in late last month.
I'm probably gonna make more, I at least want to make one of my friend's character too.
Most of the experience I've had with articulating stuff in this style is articulating a bunch of hands for a couple of dolls. I think I have pictures of both of them in my gallery somewhere.
Ooh, that's awesome! Looks very complex. I think I'm just going to start out with a simple humanoid form, for my first doll attempt. ^^; I still have to polish up the character's proportions and such though, for the blueprint. (I'm also basing it off of one of my characters.)

Out of curiosity, do you also draw a "blueprint" to work off of, or do you just sort of wing it? Or, is there some other approach I'm not thinking of?

I guess I can't speak for them, but they probably meant the photos of your dolls.
    And if that isn't what they meant, I know I'd like to see some pictures, anyway! ^^;

I see that is cool, I am quite active in photo taking and I own 8 dolls! I also like to do selfie style posts and RP with some of them too. He is one selfie style picture I took of my newest doll:

Sorry for a really late reply, but thanks. I have it done now, I have a couple pictures but I need to take some better ones.

I just start with a really rough sketch of what I want it to look like and wing it from there. Like this

Oh that is good to know, well here is an old one that magically appear on my Tumblr dash from like 1 year ago: http://malaryush-dolls.tumblr.com/image/127268548616

I actually have so many pictures of them. I currently own 8, however in my years of collecting if I never would have sold any I would have had 11.

The idea of a doll taking a selfie is rather cute. X3 The eyes and makeup on that doll are very pretty!

I love the markings/makeup on this one's face. Looks difficult to paint something so precise! Eight seems like quite a few dolls, although I dunno how large the "average" collection is. How long have you been collecting them?

That came out great! Lots of articulation in the tail there.
I don't think I could handle the "wing it" approach, I like to plan things out when I do sculptures (unless it's a simple/small one). But I think it's cool when people can just make something like that!

Which reminds me, I still have to finish the turnaround/blueprint of the character I want to make a doll of. I keep starting new projects and forgetting to start on this one. X/
I have some LaDoll clay for the sculpture, some wire, and elastic thread... I feel like I'm forgetting something important, though.

Thanks so much, it is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine to do it. I like to talk in character since my dolls are based on characters and I like to RP a lot about adventures I have got up to with them too. So yeah I find it a lot of fun, and even better if people RP with me as their characters too.

I am happy you like her, she is meant to be a modern day fay. I will show you more, since well I am a proper camera whore with her. The first link is mildly NSFW. It is in an adult store, but nothing too extreme. Just the first one though!
