How Friends React to Your Fur-ness

Hey ho. I'm wondering how your friends react when they learn that you are a furry. I don't want this to turn into "I do or do not tell my friends I'm a furry because..."

I just want to know: If your friends know you are a furry how does it affect them? Have you ever lost friends because of it? Stories like that.

I ask because the situation with my friends periodically gets awkward. So my roommates and close friends know I'm a furry. I casually told them as much and I have werewolves and ponies and shit all over my room. But with my friends it's really like a 'don't ask don't tell' situation. They know I'm a furry and obviously we're still very close, but anytime anything anthro related pops up around me they get visibly put off.

I noticed it with Space Dandy because whenever there's a Meow-centric episode I'm all "Awww yeah." And they just clam up like they don't want me 'be all furry'. This happens with any anthro characters though. It's really moot because like I said we're good friends, but idk.

    What about you?????
    Watch me swooce right in.

It's only awkward if you make it awkward. My friends don't give a shit because I don't make a big deal about it.

The grand majority of my friends aren't familiar with internet culture at all, and don't even know what furry is.
The very few that do, and do know that I have some furry interests, don't give a single shit.
One of my friends asks me things about furries from time to time, when he encounters stuff about them in other places. That's about it.

Any friends outside of the community haven't cared. They'll even share things related to anthros with me because they know it'd pertain to my interest!

None of my friends care, especially considering that most of my friends are furs as well. My non fur friends think it's neat, they don't really care for some of the more adult artwork I have hanging in my room, but they don't judge me for my liking of it. One non fur friend in particular always puts a post it note over the sheath and balls on one of my fox pin ups, lol. We both think its pretty funny. He's very supportive and has gone with me a couple times to the local furcon called CaliFur.

This happened to me a lot in college. People kinda figured out I was a furry or at least really into animal stuff from my room. They knew I was chill enough about it that they could joke about it to me, but sometimes I had some genuinely cool things and comments sent my way. I know it's not foolproof, but the less of a big deal you make about something like a hobby, the less people around you care about it.

No one among my friends knows of the furry subculture so they have always reacted positively to the fact I draw porno anthro animals. They find this so unusual in a weird cool way.

My friends don't seem to care. They just think my drawings are cute/interesting/weird, but most of them are older and/or not super connected to the internet, so they don't really have any weird associations to make to begin with.

I also don't really call myself a furry, or anything even though I suppose I basically am. I think more people have judged me for openly loving and playing pokemon at the ripe old age of 27, than they do for my drawing anthros and things.

My friends and family don't care (immediate family). I never talk about it to my family but my friends and I make furry jokes all the time. All in good fun, really.

Mostly they're... amused? I get a lot of, "No, man, that's cool," and grins.

I probably exacerbate the situation by being a little bashful about it. In fairness, sometimes my friends justify that.

"Oh, I can't go! I have a conflict that weekend."
    "That's fine! Whatcha going to?"
    "Uh... furry convention."
    "What? C'mon, you know I don't give a shit."
    "... A furry convention?"
"Oh, okay! Will there be yiffing?" Spoken as he laughs and elbows me. >:I

No serious judgments, though. Just lighthearted ribbing, pretty much. Sometimes I'll show them pieces I've drawn if I'm particularly proud of them, but mostly it's just a thing I do that they find kind of amusing. I've only ever mentioned it when it comes up in conversation, like when everyone had something going on the weekend of TFF. C'monnnn, guys.
