There was this kid in my college dorm who I swear made it his job to be as obnoxious as humanly possible. He'd blast the shittiest dubstep remixes 24/7 through a subwoofer and play his steel drum set in the middle of the night. He'd be yelling and screaming constantly with his friends who, not surprisingly, were equally loud and obnoxious. I had to tell them to quiet down on multiple occasions, but they didn't give a shit. He would throw things (such as CDs and trash can lids) around the hall and leave rotting food outside his door.

The floor staff didn't seem to give a shit either. The only time they got in any sort of trouble was when they TP'd a doorway, and even then all they were told was to not do it again. Everyone else in the hall was fine, but this kid was a tumor.

We live in a gang filled neighborhood. The cops are here all the time. -_-
So we get to listen to the charming noise that all makes, and there is nothing like gunshots at 3 AM. (funnily enough when people actually do get hurt around here it's from being stabbed).
Not to mention the sounds of domestic violence, loud rap music (often in Spanish) and firecrackers.
And the neighbor's weird annoying dog.

Meanwhile my current dumbshit neighbor has been wailing like a child for over an hour. Between the loud music and the loud, obnoxious yelling/sobbing I'm really close to getting the RA to tell her to shut up. It's 12:30am, pick a better time that isn't when most people are trying to sleep.

I found a fun way of dealing with people like your girlfriend (I say this in a joking tone, btw, I had a "loud" girlfriend once); putting my subwoofer and speakers up against the wall and absolutely blasting the hell out of some kinky, homosexual pornography. Works wonders, although thankfully I'm done with that sort of living.

Finding cheesy porn moans on Youtube and making my little laptop speakers work their hardest and loudest seemed to get my past roommate to shut the fuck up. For a while her boyfriend was banned from our dorm because he was caught wandering the halls without supervision.

It was a quiet month. :y

If you don't live in a standalone place or a place with fairly soundproof walls and you listen to music without using headphones, you're an asshole. I find it really difficult to concentrate on reading if I can hear music playing and I've had neighbors who play their music to where I can still hear it even with earplugs... and then I'm robbed of my ability to study until they decide to turn it down. Due to my non-confrontational nature I find it exceedingly difficult to actually knock on their door and ask them to turn it down. me personally I even watch TV with headphones so that I don't make noise that could bother anyone.

Anyway, my worst neighbor lived beneath us in college. when we first moved in she was sweet and really friendly, offering us food near-daily and playing video games with me (she had a pretty extensive collection). she let us borrow some of her furniture from storage too... then one day we were hanging at her house with some people, and out of the blue she demanded I leave and started screaming at me to leave and to give her all her stuff back. we returned her furniture and then she gave us an itemized list of all the food we'd eaten at her place since we moved in, so I had to go to the store and buy like orange juice and candy and potato chips and give them to her to appease her. then she locked us out of the building's communal basement, which we shared and had stuff in, because she thought we were gonna use her washer and dryer when she wasn't home (we went to a laundromat, and never touched her shit that had exploded all over the basement)...

eventually the landlord kicked her out because she was insufferable even to him, demanding we leave and calling him up all the time.

that was a very interesting year, lemme tell you.

Nah, it's pretty chillax neighborhood, we've had no issues with our neighbors so far. But we were pretty much forced to move out of our old neighborhood, we had neighbors from the deepest darkest corners of HELL. Like, it got to the point where they were turning the whole street against us and purposely damaging our property... I'm not even sure where it all started because my parents got along pretty well with them initially. Based on what my mom tells me, she found their kid messing with our manhole cover, she said something to him and it all went downhill from there (I mean, something like that, but I'm not really sure what happened. It was terribad situation though)

... we get the last laugh, it's a landfill village these days

I recently moved to a townhouse development. It's been a bit of an adjustment since I've only ever lived in rural standalone homes. The townhouse I live in is relatively new, so the walls are pretty soundproof unless someone's thumping around. Occasionally the neighbors will play loud music outside, but it's never too disturbing as I appreciate a little white noise. As with most neighborhoods, there's occasionally a little shouting going on and I see cops patrolling sometimes, but so far there have been no issues between me and anyone else. What makes me annoyed/sad is when I hear people constantly yelling at their kids, since raising your voice in anger at your children is, in my opinion, not a good way of parenting. When I become a rich and famous illustrator I'd love to move to a wooded 5-acre country home with no neighbors and plenty of garden space. :>

At my boyfriends apartment there is a lady with two dogs that never stop barking downstairs, if you sweep or move at all they go insane and won't stop. They bark so loud you can hear them over anything and the lady barely does anything to stop them. I don't even think she's home half the time, I don't know how else she could deal with it if she was.
