The most hilarious ones IMO are the Pokemon and Digimon who have genitalia that is only visible at certain times throughout the art, like it stays inside the body and then the testicles just *POP* out when it's ready to make furry porn. Or like that yellow raptor dude from Digimon having junk when it's a reptile.

When it comes to sexual anthro anatomy. I'm very neutral on that as long at it has a bit of biological accuracy (i.e. no nipples on a non-mammal, but I don,t mind breasts). Some animals can have some freaky ass ways of reproduction. looking at you, Ducks.

As a creator of alien/fantasy critters, I'm all for anatomical correctness (and "photo" realism)... unless the art is in a cartoon style, then it should follow "conservation of detail", to fit the style. Of course, with an alien, "correctness" has a whole new layer of meaning.

Look up "Scientifically Accurate Duck Tales"...

As far as the topic, im fairly neutral as well except I dont like cartoony styles, e.g. sonic, and just facepaw when people draw them sexually...

I prefer to stick with human genitals, but I'm totally cool with Bad Dragon style genitals(the ones with all the bumps and ridges). One thing I can't stand is full-on animal genitals; I like the human shape with different animal aspects mixed in like bumps, knots, etc.

I agree with Vae; I do not like porn drawn in cartoony styles like sonic or MLP.

Well, i will say, it does heavily depend on context, my own furry characters for example, are designed on purpose so that distinguishing genders visually is difficult. However I have to strike a balance between that while maintaining realistic anatomy as well. I am building a Sci Fi setting, while it inst a strictly hard SF setting, it means that when it comes down to it, I have to err on the side of realism. Realistic Physics, realistic biology Ect. Ect. Unfortunately i learned very recently that maintaining realistic biology while hiding certain body parts turned out to be impossible. More on that in a bit.

I am perhaps one of the very few furry artists that has outright abandoned putting breasts on my female characters. Most of the anthro species in my setting, their females do not have breasts, including my Akurians. Now for my Akurian species, human-like breasts isn't really a feasible option either, nor is it biologically necessary for them. Your typical Akurian has a litter of 3-4 kids, and sometimes can go as high as six, so just two nipples simply isnt enough. Since I think multiple rows of boobs looks incredibly stupid, I just abandoned them altogether. And also as a result, for Akurians, their nipples are on their stomachs, not on their chests, much like most real animals.

Now when it comes to genitalia, originally my intent was that on both genders wouldn't be visible, but recently I learned about one fact that basically meant, that for females anyway, hiding their vagina's turned out to make no biological sense. Basically, i found out that females urinated out of their vagina (No I did not know that before, I had no reason to look it up, and yes, I'm obviously a dude). Fur is normally thinner in those areas so that when nature calls, they don't soil themselves too badly. Plus that would really suck to clean out.

Males Are a bit more of an interesting case. Because the Akurian's originate from planets with high levels of background radiation, due to high levels of uranium on the planet, their genitals are internal. The penis is also sheathed internally, not visible unless the male needs to pee or is horny for some reason. The opening of the sheath would only be noticeable if the male in question was sitting with his legs up for some reason. Also penises for most of these species is considerably smaller proportionally for them than it is for humans. Yeah, humans actually have proportionally the largest dong to body size of just about any animal. Also because of that, their fur doesn't really need to be as thin in the crotch area as it does on the females.

Of course, anuses for both genders is not covered by fur. It should be pretty obvious why having fur right over the butthole would suck.

Now for when i actually get around to making the webcomic for my stuff, from the character POV, anatomy is visible, but from the POV of the reader, its not.

TLDR: basically female vagina's are visible form the characters perceptive almost all the time, males only if they are sitting in a certain posture or horny, but anatomy is not visible form the readers perpective.

This is the only picture that really shows what their anatomy looks like. one on the left is male, one on the right is female.

This is a really fascinating thread.

To all the people who say it's jarring to see porn drawn in Simpsons/MLP/Sonic/etc style, I feel that same way. IMHO, nothing about those particular styles says "sexy" to me, and it's off-putting to see these really cartoony-looking characters with genitals and, in the ladies' cases, these often enormous breasts. Now I draw both clean and mature Sonic art, but in both cases I further anthropomorphize the characters and give them more normal proportions and musculature as well.

Since my anthros have humanoid bodies with animal heads, I prefer giving mammals human breasts. None for birds, reptiles, fish, etc though, but I try to hint at gender in other ways (their clothing, their design of their eyes, build, etc). I'm more lenient with breasts on fantasy reptiles and birds like dragons and such, since they're made-up magical creatures (I know, I know, it's not like anthro coyotes are real either, but you guys get what I mean? XD).

That's what I've been doing so far. On one hand I think "these are animal-people, so wouldn't they still have animal parts?" But I don't wanna Google photos of actual animal junk either. :-/ Maybe I should go the sheath with a human penis route a couple of other people mentioned doing a few pages ago.

I don't like genitalia. I don't see how contributes to be more enjoyable other than for arousal or realism.
    Just preference.

wait wait wait wait, you think ppl urinate out of their vaginas??? ohhh lord, I have to take that hard scifi badge away from you, them's the breaks, kid.

but seriously, the females of most mammalian species urinate out of their urethras. The urethra is located behind the clitoris (the erectile part) and in front of the vagina. The vagina refers exclusively to the reproductive canal; often people erroneously call the whole kit a "vagina", but it's a vulva, and that level of specificity is how we don't give the impression that pee, sex, and birth are all carried out by the same opening, and really makes or breaks the "hard scifi" aspect. & If I'm coming down harsh it's that anyone of-age should already know this, thinking that female-assigned ppl pee from their birth canal is baby "I don't understand physiology" stuff.
Now, if you want your fantasy alien species to have a dual-purpose orifice, that's fine, I'd just be staggered to find it defended that it's supposed to be reflective of human physiology!

(I mean, likewise plenty of other mammals have developed, chest-centered, mammalries--elephants, I recently learned!, or other great apes besides humans. So it's not totally sound to say "other species with breasts is unrealistic"; outside of a case where the species nurses multiple young and thus needs multiple teats)

RE: the OP, which I must have hallucinated responding to two years ago??

I've changed my stance over the years, personally, igdaf about fantasy genitalia on fantasy creatures, even if it and they are analogous to real-world creatures; also extending to secondary sex characteristics (developed breasts, no breasts, multi breasts/udders)...it's not something I personally draw, but I probaby would if requested and the person's art/character didn't creep me out.
Like, my line has become more, "Do you see this as a real dog/cat/horse/etc, want it to look like a real animal or be animalized more than anthromorphized? Kinda skeevy, dude." I guess that's why I prefer more cartoony/illustrative art as opposed to realisticly rendered art; I'd rather feel like 'this is just a collection of aesthetically pleasing attributes' than 'man someone really wants an NC-17 Fur, Fish, and Game cover' (hubba hubba SFW)

By and large, tho, I like drawing human genitalia. That's it. Just in general. Weenies
    apathetic.
