Improper tagging still running rampant, and the result of it

    Hello,

As much as I love this site, and people on it, there still is a problem with people not tagging their anthropomorphic, "furry", etc. art as such on the site, which means some of us who don't want to see such art (personally I just don't want to see the pornographic stuff, SFW is fine) have to see it, or filter individual drawings or ignore entire users, which seems wrong to me.

A result of this is people who don't feel comfortable in such an atmosphere won't join or continue posting on this site, meaning that the site loses diversity in art and in the community. I've already heard of this happening, and I've seen it happen too.

What could be done to keep this from happening further?

I appreciate your concern about our tagging system. While the technical infrastructure is mostly in place, we are clearly still having a few social issues that we've gotta iron out. Making threads in order to fret about a percieved "tagging problem" isn't as productive as just fixing the missing tags yourself, which is why our staff offers that ability to our users. Thanks for your understanding!

Personally I don't think tagging furry art as "furry" is necessary since if you're gonna tag something as basic as this, you might as well tag every color you've used. And as for not wanting to see NSFW stuff, there's mature filters for that. You can choose... not to see NSFW (Mature & Explicit) stuff.

I don't appreciate my thoughts about this "fretting", or it being a perceived problem, since as I stated some people have avoided or have left the site because of the situation. Also some users don't allow people to add tags to their works, and some have galleries of untagged works that need tagging, which makes just blocking the user a better option at that point. I understand that the social aspects of the site are taking a backseat to the software aspects for now, but when you have people avoiding the site or leaving the site doesn't that come off as bad publicity?

Comparing the colors used in an artwork and the subject material isn't a very good comparison. Colors are trivial, while subject material is important for determining if you want to see an image or not. Also, I have already set up mature/adult filters for "furry", "anthropomorphic", "animal", "feral", etc. tags, but things still slip through due to people just not tagging their work. That's the problem here.

So basically, you're okay with mature/explicit stuff as long as it isn't furry? You make a pretty weird furry yanno . But yeah, I can see why that'd be an issue to you then. And yeah, I've seen a few artists completely erase their gallery and quit because users were "abusing" the tagging feature on their pieces (read putting correct tags).

Still, it isn't something the staff can do much about. They've already allowed users to tag correctly and ferrets basically go around looking for tags to correct themselves so the issue is for both users and artists to stop bickering and all agree to something, which is pretty much impossible thanks to people (especially furries) not being all the same. It's something you'll have to bear with I'm afraid, just block the occasional non-tagger if they annoy you so, or take the time to correct their tags till they either learn their lesson and start tagging correctly, or till they get sick of it and ragequit. Whichever option happens, at least the tags will be correct so other users who have the same issue as you won't see that one piece anymore.

People are leaving over tagging? Really? Silly of them. It would be nice to have the ability to import tags in a group though.
    This signature is a lie.

Well, many furries are easily offended and some try too hard to be

Likewise, staff doesn't appreciate users spreading rumors about "people leaving because of the tagging system" or "improper tagging runs rampant". As I said before, I'd rather see you simply fix the missing/improper tags that are bothering you (since that's why we permit users to do this very thing), but if you feel the "Block" button (which prevents you from interacting with that user) is more helpful to your experience, that is your decision.

The only people that leave over the tagging system appear to be the people that talk to this thread's OP. Let that be your guide.

I'm aware that our tagging system is "very rough", and we're working on improving that for all. I think what we're missing the most is "tag implication", so that "catalepsy" and "cataleptic" can both represent the same tag.
