    Fall of the Red Queen

The slots for this game have already been filled. Please do not attempt to post or otherwise play if you are not one of the selected players

For the players, we'll set the schedule by .

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The messages had gone out by courier or the classic message attached to arrows, Mr. Black had ensured that each of the selected participants had received the message. Each a fine scrawled handwritten note in perfect script.

"You have been selected for a job. Should you choose to accept this endeavor for all its dangers you will be rewarded greatly. You will be expected to meet with my liaison at the stroke of 7 PM, on the 12th at the Red Lion pub of Twifordshire. He will explain the nature of this employment. Be prompt and tell no one ~Mr. Black"

Now 7 pm drew close in Twifordshire, a small farming town a few miles from the Red Queen's kingdom. Despite the size of the town the pub and inn we perpetually busy as the town acted as a rest stop for travelling merchants and traders. The tables downstairs were all filled but one large setting in the back corner of the floor away from the music, dancing, bar, and other festivities. Seated at the table a tall human man, misplaced in the country setting by dressing in a fairly nice suit more common in the larger cities. He watched the door, glancing to his pocket watch occasionally to check as the hands spun closer to the deadline. He was waiting for the adventurers of Mr. Black.

Belvin Beestinger took some time to take note of this human, patrons in the tavern, every detail. Being a halfling, he wasn't particularly strong or tough, and while he was quick on his feet, intelligence benefits the careful. He stood there in his rather plain clothing watching, not standing out; he was early anyway. He wondered how he was 'selected' as the note said, were there others? And why this Mr. Black wouldn't meet himself, a lucrative deal shrouded in secrecy sounded a bit suspicious. However, curiosity and the promise of money were enough to draw him here. Belvin checked his watch, only moments before seven in the evening. Feeling more confident having taken the time to examine his surroundings, he approached the table.

Otsoko made his way into the pub slightly early for mysterious meeting, the lure of money more then enough to make the short journey from his home village. The letter in his pocket as he searches for the pub, walking in and looking around the room as he looks for signs of the person he was looking for, noticing the man in the corner in a fine suit sitting with another stranger. Making his way through the pub and slowly walking to the table and looking to the man in the suit, sitting down without a word and looking over the other two at the table

A loud "thomp" stirs the lazy halfelf from her slumber. Fiona lay there in a pile of furs, clothes, bottles and a lovely quilt that her grandma had knitted. With one finger she lifted her woodsman hat to spy an arrow standing from the tree she had collapsed on the previous night, if only she had been perceptive enough to also see the note attached to the shaft of said arrow she then might not have leaped to her feet with her hammer in hand and thrown it at the most human shaped tree near by only to miss it and lose her hammer. Blinking the last of the sleep from her eyes the woman realizes her mistake and stands there looking defeated, her eyes turn back to the arrow, glowering down at the little bit of paper carefully tied to it and yanks the arrow from the tree. Sinking back down into her drunken nest of the previous night's adventure, she opens and reads the note, a sly grin curls her cheeks and she recovers a little composure. It was always nice when work found her, probably another shop owner with some unruly customers. After collecting her things and playing a less amusing scavenger hunt for her lost hammer the halfelf set off to town. How lucky was she, she was just there the other night, days walk or so and she would easily make it there before sun set. Though her location in the woods makes it a bit off putting that someone had managed to find her in all of that mess, that is until she saw the Hansel and Gretel style path of bottles that lead out to the road, maybe if those kids were drunks... She curses herself for having gotten so wound up, it was rather unlike her to indulge so much but with a promise to her self to never let it happen again she is on her way.

The Red Lion pub, what a welcome sight to her eyes. It meant drinks, food and this time, it meant money! When ever there was money involved Fiona took extra care to look presentable. She had bathed and dressed up in a rather nice white shirt, a tawny leather vest that came out over her shoulders and a pair of her most presentable pants, meaning the only ones without claw marks or burn holes. She wears a pair of brown leather boots that come up to just below her knee, that are trimmed nicely with white fur and on her shoulders she drapes a short mahogany cloak, held on by thin chain and decorated along the hood with white fur to match her boots. Man does she know how to accessorize! The final touches are of course her hat and the large impressive hammer that hangs from her belt along with a few pouches of goodies. With a new found confidence brought on by just how smashing she looked, the halfelf, farm girl saunters onto the familiar bar, determined to find this liaison and see what one earth his boss needs that required an archer to find her in the woods! She dismisses the typical shenanigans and ruckus of the pub, quickly finding an odd looking man, too fancy to be in a place like this and of course the other folks who had come in looking as determined as she. After surveying the exits and looking for curious eyes that might cause trouble, the woman strolls over with an unimpressed look on her face and an arrow in her hand, the note missing of course. She held up the arrow silently, cocking her head and raising one very unimpressed brow.

He couldn't believe he was doing this...

Banditry? rebellion? assasination? These generally aren't the sorts of things that a paladin, a man of his honor, would think of doing. This time though, he quelled his stirring thoughts as he walked down the path towards the establishment referred to in the note he received. He clutched it tight in his armored hand, sure that all of this was some trick to get him out of hiding so that someone could finally finish off his order. Though, he kept hope close to him just for the chance that this might be the oppurtunity he was waiting for. The paladin slowly pulled his hood down as he stepped to the door of the Red Lion Pub, slowly opening the door and looking around at the festivities.

-Was this really the place to be holding a meeting?- he thought to himself, then saw the tall man in back swinging his watch. Theryn Urtol, a knight of the Ethereal, closed the door behind him as he put a boot towards the table, then another after that. The armor across his body made little noise, stifled by the cloak over top of it as he walked over to the table and sat down, looking at the other three who had already arrived.

Oh the grumble that can come from the mouth of an uncertain man, a man putting his bets on a high chance in his mind and preparing to do something he never would have thought of before. Theryn was going to clear his brothers names, and put down his guilts finally. ''does d//is pub 'ere serve apple beer?'' he would ask anyone at the table, hoping to break the ice in an honest way.

(just a note, technically you don't know what the job is yet, your characters would only be aware of what is in the note.)

An apprehensive Elven smith apprentice wandered into the Red Lion Pub just minutes before 7:00. He was rather surprised at receiving a note from this "Mr. Black" and had a tad bit of excitement buried underneath the apprehension. His people were not normally sought out by strangers, especially regarding recruiting for anything. He did hear rumors from warriors he did work for so perhaps this may have something to do with it? Whatever the case, he had longed to venture out from his home and experience more than just simple weapon-making. The coin was alright but the "great reward" mentioned in his note was quite appealing. Admittedly, he was having second thoughts about it. If the job was far too dangerous or clashed with his ethics, he would have to turn it down, no matter how great the pay was. Fortunately, he only agreed to himself to hear the details of the job and then decide if he would accept or decline.

After a quick perusal of the pub, he noticed a small gathering at a certain table. Assuming that this was the meeting area, he made his way towards the group, taking note of each of the members there. It wasn't as many as he expected. Either many were invited but a small group accepted or few were invited and fewer (if not all) accepted. The elf's curiosity piqued as he quietly stood before the group.
We all have our demons. If we're not fighting them, then we've befriended them.

Going to move on. The current post schedule is DM, Ouiji, Otsoko, Mushi, Plax, Aleu. DM might post in between as needed so pay attention.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

At exactly 7 the man closed his watch. He'd been silent up until that moment, not acknowledging the potential adventurers outside of a casual nod to confirm he was the man they were looking for. With the deadline met he glanced up to take in the group which had managed to at least show up on time. As he replaced his watch into its pocket he pulled out a single sheet up paper and unfolded it to place it face down on the paper. "welcome. You may call me Mr. Wolfe. I will be your present liason for Mr. Black." He glanced around the table making a mental note of those that had attended.
"The goal of this quest is written on that sheet of paper. Before you see it I will say you will be asked to enter into the Red Kingdom, however you manage this is not my concern and I will ask no questions. The task at hand will be difficult though I assure you it is quite beneficial to people as a whole. Should you agree to this task you will be given a lump sum of 200 gold, rations, supplies, and my employer has graciously agreed to providing the means for your weapon of choice, as a offer of good will. Once your task is complete the reward is not insignificant. You will all quite literally have your take of a kingdom's riches."

He leaned back in his seat "So, if you do not intend to take this deal I suggest you leave now. If not, please take a look at the paper before you"

The paper sat on the table being decidedly nondescript. On the bottom, currently hidden from view was a simple message. "Thank you for taking this mission. I am sorry, but forced to ask for you to end the tyranny of the Red Queen. Remove her from power by any means necessary to free the kingdom from her grasp and benefit those that seek the resources, riches, and knowledge that she has selfishly locked away in her ivory towers to leave the people to toil in poverty"

Belvin listened closely to what this 'Mr. Wolfe' had to say. Could he even be sure this was his real name let alone if he really was associated with the mysterious Mr. Black? A mission that would be beneficial to the people as a whole, something that remains to be seen. However, 200 gold pieces and everything required up front was a tempting offer, and the rewards promised after completion even more so. The words 'you will be provided the means for your weapon of choice' hung in the air, obviously this was going to be less than friendly visit to the Red Kingdom. Despite his doubts, he had to know...he reached for the paper, grasped it by the edges and turned it over. His eyes scan left and right, slowly focusing more and more toward the bottom of the note. "Remove her from power...by any means..." This most certainly would be a violent encounter, people will die; Belvin pondered for a moment and came to the conclusion that whoever is hiring him to do this likely has some sort of plan for the aftermath...still, this had to be done. The Red Queen's tyranny must be brought to an end. Belvin looks back up to the liason and nods his head in agreement before setting the note back down face-down without a word. He looks to his potential companions, looking at them expectantly to either pick up the note or leave.
