This. So this. It always takes me away from the movie when I think about The Wilhelm Scream, only for something important to be missed.

Movies that are supposed to be realistic then have completely unrealistic effects and explosions. Yea, great big balls of fire are some cool explosions, but come on...

Also movies that are supposedly based on book yet are nothing like the book! Eragon, for example. Great series and an okay movie, but the movie would have been much better if it has not been made after Eragon. Blood and Chocolate too... I LOVED that book, but they completely ruined it with the movie!

This isn't related to movie and their plots, but talking during a movie! My mom constantly is asking questions! "Who's this guy? What's his name? What just happened? Does he die?" et cetera, et cetera! Oh it's so goddamned annoying! Just shut up and watch the movie!

Anything involving Russians+Terrorism, Launch Codes, the generic love story, the Howie scream, Pretty much modern horror/gore pron all together, FADE TRANSITIONS UGH, and that plot twist we all knew was coming. tl;dr: Prediciability.

The film industry is fairly dead now. As far as fresh ideas go anyway.

    Michael Bay.

If that name is anywhere on the advertisement or cover of a movie, I don't want anything to do with it.

This. Give me a good suspense movie that rules fear through psychology rather than relying on the gore cop-out. I fear that the Evil Dead remake is going to be torture porn. Completely ignoring the fact that everyone loves the original because it was so corny and bad.

Aside from that, I work in the industry having 2 indie features under my belt. The things that are really hurting us the most are producers who are unwilling to take a chance on risky experimental movies/tv shows, Studios buying the rights to certain stories with no intention of making it (They've been sitting on the rights to Snow Crash for almost 20 years just so no one else will make it,) and outsourcing of VFX/Animation (This is especially bad in animated series when the glaring inconsistency in quality can be seen.)

It seems that most of the truly interesting stories are being told within the gaming industry. Games aren't constrained as bad by time and they are more free to experiment with style (though gaming companies are too obsessed with realism that they don't explore all the possibilities that modern game engines and graphics cards can create.)

One dimensional characters; unrealistic dialogue that we've all heard a billion times, and doesn't fit in the scene.

Political correctness of any sort; token black man who doesn't do anything but act to the script writers idea of 'black' (pretty racist actually); dominant so called 'feminist' woman that wears revealing clothing while trying to be a bigger jerk than a stereotypical male boss.

Self Righteousness; its all black and white, our heroes have few ethical problems and know what is best. I get put off by these sorts of tropes because it detracts from the very real, very serious ethical dillemnas that we face every day. Worse, it can simplify what are in fact extremely complex situations into cartoonish fables... for our consumption.

Feel good competition; 90s kids sports films. I hate these with a passion, as they basically tell a group of kids that one of them has to be better than the other, cuz somebody has to be a loser in order for somebody to be a winner. What happens to the losing team? Oh well their hopes and dreams don't matter. The cutthroats ultimately win out in the end. Just what I want to teach my kids; to be an egomaniac who has to beat everyone else to be a somebody. Very sinister frankly.

No. Nonononononono. Movies that are already classics should NOT be remade.

Another turn-off for me is when there's too much of a cool thing. It becomes less cool. Example, Star Wars. In the original films, when you heard the sound of it activating, you knew right then and there that shit just got real. Obi Wan Kenobi sacrifices himself so that Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewie could escape the Death Star. Luke discovers that his father and Darth Vader are the same person. Darth Vader finds his redemption, and defeats the emperor. These great points of plot made each duel all that more intense. In the prequels, there was so much lightsaber crap going on, it didn't feel as special as in the originals. There were so many of those damn things, it felt as commonplace of a weapon as the blasters. Not to mention the coolness of the mystery of the Jedi was all but killed. Instead of mysterious ancient space monks, we got argumentative, dismemberment-obsessed madmen. If something is going be labeled cool in a movie, it has to be used sparingly.

At this point I think that's the reason it's still used in the first place. That said, why is it so hard to record new people screaming? I think Goldeneye 007 for the N64 ruined stock screams for me-- I can pick out any of the screams used in that game in an instant, and they're used a lot.

And yeah, I really hate the "Funny guy impresses girl => funny guy is caught in a misunderstanding or lie-gone-out-of-control => girl leaves in a huff instead of waiting two minutes for a reasonable explanation => they make up 20 minutes later" infinite movie loop. It's more frustrating than anything because I feel like in real life most of those situations would be easily talked out.

The Wilhelm scream is more of an inside joke to sound editors nowadays. They just throw it in for shits n' giggles.

I forgot about those movies. I do not watch them often, but when I do I'm constantly thinking "he lied to you for the past week! He's FAKE!? Yet you're going to forgive him and say he did it out of love?!" So being a fake prick is going to get you the girl, huh? Well... that's an AMAZING idea for males and females to have... No wonder the divorce rate is so high in the U.S....
