I also am thinking that DA is not worth it. I have deleted more than half of my stuff there. been on it for over a year and only 5 watchers?
I have received like 6 comments. on FA I have a lot of watchers and many favorites and one of my favorite artists is on there as well.
I would love to see them come to weasyl.

DA is mostly good when you step into a fandom, like Spyro, Sonic The Hedgehog, etc. Fanart gets more attention than something else. I saw people got sad because its like nobody cares for original art (like reality portraits, own characters (not fancharacters). But its true tho

Well at least, the spammer was honest! xD

Yeah, that was the funny part. I agree though that there are lots of fan art related material there. Don't get me wrong, I like fan art, but when it comes to original stuff it's not there. I find that when I draw one of my furries for example I get a few favorites, but when I draw something fan related like a MLP art, I get lots more attention. Not to say that my drawing is to solely be popular, but it is an interesting observation.

I can't stand DA at all anymore and pretty much all the reasons have been addressed in this topic already, but in truth I dislike FA a lot more, at least I can browse DA, I even like the UI and the color a lot, what I can't say from FA.
Oddly enough its hard to leave, if I'm going to get some eyes on my stuff anywhere, then DA is most likely the place. On top of that I have a looooot of my buddies who are there and determined to stay. In overall if you ignore everything thats going on DA is very doable. I just hope my work never gets stolen, I have it watermarked but by the looks of it DA has become even more of a slacker then I thought it was.

I'm not sure about FA ... Last I heard there was a rapist or a pedo in the modcrew and that was pretty much the fucking last drop, I closed my account for the time being.
But the site is just all kinds of horrible in general ,crappy color, bad UI, loads so slow I can't brows art at enjoyable rate. Yeah its not hard too see why I never really got into FA and just sticked with DA. I really wanted to like FA since I think its more friendly for original stuff (?) and I might find more likeminded people there since I love anthro, but the loading times are beyond painful for me.

No you're pretty right, its getting out of hand. DA is going down in its own popularity. I had to pester a mod for weeks before they finally decided to take a parasitic ID fraud down. Thats one of the very rare success stories I have, all the rest ... I stopped bothering. Its sad and its wrong to not react to stolen works but its a waste of my time to write a ticked by now. All I get back is a Bot reply . If I can I email the original artist tho.

I've reported several trolls on their boards - including one who literally swore thirteen times within one post.

They said "We find that people blocking others tends to help solve these problems."

Uh... no. It doesn't. The problem isn't "They are saying mean things to me!" the problem is "This person is shit-posting and giving your community a bad name". Telling people to "Just ignore them and maybe they'll go away" Doesn't actually SOLVE the problem or do anything to ASSESS it - the problem is the person's behaviour.
I literally told them "Don't be afraid to anger someone who is wantonly violating the rules and is garbage-posting - they're violating the rules you yourselves set and enforce, after all. You should instead be afraid to anger the rule-abiding users. They're the ones making up the majority of your userbase. By refusing to even suspend someone who has violated several rules, you send the message that dA is a site that doesn't mind trolling and terrible behaviour." and it just went in one ear and out the other. They also refused to suspend someone who has ADMITTED to trolling (Even when I posted links where they admitted to provoking people!) because "it's not violating any rules". The hell, you literally think this shit is okay? If someone posted like that HERE, they'd be pretty much banned on arrival.

Another time, I saw someone upload obviously traced artwork - but they did it so poorly the dA staff said it wasn't art theft.

I have my gripes about DA but I've been a member for... 8 years now? It has it's problems, I've dealt with the trolls, art theft, glitches, lame admins--all of it lol But most likely I'll never leave it. It was my first art site and where I've made a lot of friends. I'd rather leave FA first before I leave DA. The layout for FA doesn't appeal to me but I still try to upload art there and stay minimally active there for friends, since FA is the only place I can keep in touch with them And getting your art noticed on DA is possible, it's not easy though. I can say the "Groups" system is the best thing ever!! Of course there are plenty of dead groups, but there are more active groups which are geared toward helping your art get noticed more. Its time consuming though, cause you have to submit and look out for art feature journals but it's possible.
But I remember when there were barely any trolls on DA back when it was a small community, but that's kinda how a lotta sites start out. I hate to be a downer but it'll probably happen to Weasyl one day, we'll soon be seeing art theft and trolls; no website is safe from these jerks. I hope it doesn't happen to Weasyl for a LOOOOONG time because I love the way the community is right now and the admins seem to care more for it's member-base.
I'm not trying to sway you guys one way or the other, if you dislike DA then please don't change your opinion and stand strong with it I'm merely contributing mine ^_^

deviantart was shit when I joined over 10 years ago and it's even shittier now.

Many people praised the groups feature in this thread, but I think deviantart managed to find a way to make it wrong, for one simple reason - if chunks your group notifications along your regular watch notifications. Therefore the only way you get feedback on your stuff is by having a shitton of watchers or by posting your art to a shitton of groups and getting your notifications swamped with horrible artwork. Even sheezyart, as bloated as it was, didn't do something that stupid. It's a good place for already stablished artists to get in touch with their fans, but a terrible site for people who want to expose their artwork.

As for sites going downhill, well, furaffinity is getting close to 10 years of existence and look how much better it still is as a community than deviantart. On FA people are really helpful with each other, featuring artists they feel deserve better attention or signal boosting people who's having problems, people who do so on deviantArt are far few. Odds are it would be even better if the administration didn't comprise of assholes standing up for assholes. And art theft isn't a rampant problem on FA as far as I know either. It's no surprise to me that many people now prefer tumblr over deviantart - it doesn't really care about what content the users post but at least it doesn't pretend they do.

I still recall when they lifted the ban on Jessica Elwood on deviantArt no more than a few days after it has surfaced that she had scammed dozens of people through art sites. At least on that regard FA did the right thing by kicking her out for good, but deviantArt, on the other hand, cannot afford to lose overrated artists with 5-figure watcher counts even when they perform unlawful behavior apparently.

I find that people are starting to do this on Weasyl as well - I guess people realized, "Hey, we liked it on FA."

Also, who's Jessica Elwood? o.O; Someone able to give me a response that doesn't involve looking up Encyclopedia Dramatica and risking infecting my computer with viruses?

I stay on DA because mostly for the fandom of Sly Cooper. But DA in general isnt fun anymore. Explorer dont work well with DA, I reported it, and as I though, they give Explorer the blame. Funny fact, I have the newest Explorer on my laptop with Windows 7 and even there it dont work well. It does, for some minutes but then it dont load anymore, or I getting only red X's instead of pictures. I tried Chrome, but get the same problem. Meh!

About reporting? I reported people who drew adult artworks that belong on FA or other sites. Like I reported other people because they broke and still breaking the rules. Its like I get ignored once again! The artworks are still there. And there was a person who had ONE little discussion on DA and got Ip banned! Whats going on on DA? I mean what?

Weasyl? Cant you take over DA and make it a better place? xD
