There are some artists that actually won't draw copyrighted stuff for money because technically speaking, it does go against copyright laws. They'll draw fancharacters, but many won't do actual copyright stuff. It's a weird grey area.
Though a lot of places probably won't sue you for drawing someone a picture of their Pokemon or Sonic OCs. Copyright laws are usually reserved more for people who are making money off of mass produced products like plushes.

And by making money I mean they're making hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars off of them.

I'm debating on using dA again for general non-anthro-related digital work. I made one last year to showcase my drawings from an art class I was taking, but I never really wanted to go through the trouble of taking pictures (since the drawings were far bigger than what a scanner can scan), so I just sort of neglected it. Maybe I'll just create a new account.

Trademarked characters, yeah, but that's a whole 'nother ballpark if I'm correct.

    That sounds like me. :/

My activity on DA is pretty much minimal nowadays and the only reason I still have a profile there is for exposure. Aside of the artists I am already watching in other websites, I may have 2-3 I watch there. Since I am not well established in any communities, the annoyances I have experienced are usually applicable anywhere.

I've got 200k pageviews and my secret is making stamps. Unfortunately, making stamps, you get a lot of shitheels in your inbox. Even after making the decision to disable all comments on pretty much all of my stamps (no matter what the subject matter was), I still get fuckheads shitting their pants in my general direction. I'm tired of arguing with them and repeating myself so I've basically just been using dA to post content and not even acknowledge responses to it.
Someone said I should be anally raped because I don't agree with them and dA did nothing about it but hide the comment. I've reported bigotry and threats many times and been ignored. That's because I made a big fuss when my account was hacked into and deactivated, and I refused to accept their bullshit about how "there was nothing they could do". I'm the one responsible for the reactivation feature, because I gathered other people who had experienced what I had and demanded change. They refused to give us our data, our accounts, our subscriptions, and we didn't stand for it. I even got the Better Business Bureau involved, and it was after that they finally started replying to my issue. But now I'm cursed because they constantly ignore my tickets and shut them without even responding to them, unless it's a technical question. Their customer service is bullshit like that - make any kind of motion against them and you're branded for life as a trouble maker who doesn't deserve customer service (I've seen people literally doxxed and nothing was done against the people who did it because the original person is too uppity).

I don't know why, but it seems more people are willing to share their thoughts on sites like dA, FA, or IB. (in that order.)

By that I mean people seem way more likely to comment. I don't know why, but it seems on SoFurry and Weasyl, I see maybe four or five comments tops, whereas on dA I see something that gets at least a dozen comments within the week it's submitted.

I'm too dumb to know what stamps are but this is scary

^ Stamps are to dA as .GIF spamming is to Tumblr.

Takes almost no skill to do... yet gets hundreds of views and reposts.

I noticed that the admins of DA dont have hand over things anymore. I reported artworks that are stoled, porno, and stuff, and thats been weeks ago, it seems they dont care about it. At least, thats what I think. I reported something months ago, and its also still there, I never got a reply back, or anything. They made rules, but its like they ignore them as well :/ Sorry thats just how I feel about it, I can be wrong.

DeviantArt is actually the first big art site I found when looking for one years ago. It is still my main site now even after having a FurAffinity account and of course recently here. As for art theft, I've heard about it from some artists I watch, but for me only one of my drawings were stolen by a spammer who clearly says on their page, "I steal art LOL!" After reporting this artist (and others as well) that one is gone.
