    Last.fm Thread

    I think we could use one of these, because I like Last.fm as a whole, and hearing other people's radios sure helps in finding new music.

    Mine is Sevipervert @ Last.fm. And even if I don't add you, I'll at least try to find time to listen to your radio. :}

    And if you don't use Last.fm, dang.

    I listen to a lot of prog-related genres. I don't really use last.fm for anything other than tracking my music listening habits, so I am not terribly interested in networking through the site. Feel free to add me, though! www.last.fm/user/DeedsyDragon

    I'm there. I mostly just use the account to track my listening from home. http://www.last.fm/user/mwalimu

    I tried Last.FM and while I love the ability to skip to my hearts content, the song censorship was too much. Is there a way to turn it off or do I just never use my Last.FM again.

    The limitations on song skipping, number of tracks by the same artist per time period, and so forth, are rules imposed under pressure from the big record labels, some of them part of laws such as DMCA. It's stupid, last.fm knows it's stupid, turntable.fm had to impose some stupid rules too, but the record companies are still stuck in their pre-Internet business models and like to pretend that letting people play what they want when they want if they haven't bought and paid for it is tantamount to stealing music. Apparently, skipping until the song you want comes up is considered too close to being able to play the song on demand. And if they are required to have a rule that says only four songs by any particular artist every three hours, they would still have to enforce it no matter how many songs you skip.

    Yes, it's stupid, but it's not really last.fm's fault.

    I personally don't use last.fm radio anyhow; my use of it is limited to scrobbling what I play from my own music library.
