Update Jan 17 06:30 UTC: We've deployed a fix to correct an issue that caused some "Tagged in Gallery" searches to fail.

Update Jan 16 04:22 UTC: Deployed a hotfix to correct a currency conversion issue.

Update Jan 15 21:49 UTC:

Our developers have been hard at work for the last couple of weeks, and Marketplace (https://www.weasyl.com/marketplace) has returned. Thank you for your patience!

The following improvements have been made:

Addressed performance issues
Various improvements to the Marketplace search tool
Overhauled Commission Settings (https://www.weasyl.com/control/editcommissionsettings), and you can now manage all commission settings in one place
Bug fix: Removing a commission type no longer leaves orphaned prices that attach themselves to future commission types

Additionally, we no longer support versions of Internet Explorer older than 11.0.

To help people find you in the marketplace, try out the new Commission Settings (https://www.weasyl.com/control/editcommissionsettings) and add some preferred tags. You can also add opt-out tags to ensure you don't appear when certain content is searched for.

We have plans for further improvements, including improving the quality of Marketplace search results and back end changes to the commission information system. Your feedback is appreciated.

Update Dec 30 05:33 UTC: Update rolled back.

Update Dec 30 05:28 UTC: Unfortunately we've hit an issue with Marketplace on production that didn't come up during testing, and we're rolling back the update until we get it fixed. No ETA for fix at this stage.

Hello again! With the holiday season in full swing, it's our pleasure to announce Weasyl's newest feature: Our Marketplace (https://www.weasyl.com/marketplace)!

Marketplace is a tool for searching for artists open for commissions. You can search by any of the following:
* Type of commission (e.g. badge)
* Content (using tags)
* Price range and currency

Results are sorted by how well the artist matches the content you’ve searched for (if applicable), then by most recent upload time. We also convert prices to your selected currency automatically.

If you're an artist wishing to be included in search results, you'll need to enter your commission pricing information. We've also added the ability for you to specify content you prefer to create or do not wish to create using tags. The interface for entering and editing commission information needs some love, so be sure to let us know if you've got any suggestions or feedback.

For more information see Marketplace Help (https://www.weasyl.com/help/marketplace), and if you've got feedback let us know in this thread.

Finally, in previous news post (https://www.weasyl.com/site-updates/146) we forgot to mention that we've added the ability for individual users to specify tags they don't wish to have added to their submissions via Community Tagging. Tags can be added using the Community Tagging Restrictions (https://www.weasyl.com/control/tagrestrictions) section of your settings. If you have suggestions or questions related to Community Tagging, let us know in the Tagging System Updates (https://forums.weasyl.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?8931-Tagging-System-Updates-and-Discussion) thread.

That's all for now, but stay tuned for more new stuff in 2017!

I don't understand the Marketplace at all. It only seems to make finding artists to commission more complex and confusing. I can't seem to find anything.
I looked at the Marketplace Help section but it only made it more confusing.
What am I doing wrong?

Can you give me an example of what you've searched on the market and didn't find any results? Or were you finding results, but felt they weren't narrowed down enough?

I tried several different searches and I got a lot of results but nothing that had anything to do with what I searched for.
I was also searching for simple things, like coloured sketches, full colour drawings, macro and muscle art.

Part of this is to do with limitations of the existing data. It's not great, but this would probably be dead in the water without it.

The quality of search results will improve over time as the following things happen:

Artists update their commission information
Artists make better use of the preset commission types
Artists add preference/opt-out tags, which didn't previously exist
Submissions are better tagged for type and content
We make back end improvements to the commission information system and search algorithms

I just tried it out, and after a minute it started to seem relatively straight-forward to me. It searches content by looking for artwork in peoples' galleries tagged with the term you search for, and then you can limit it more by price and so on. Haven't tried setting up my own commission page yet, since I'm not doing commissions right now, but I might play around with it later.

One thing I don't see is a search by username?

I'm still getting random searches out of it. I've tried narrowing down the topics but that seems to have no effect.
I must be doing something wrong if it is working this poorly. :(

Can you give me an example URL that you are searching, but it's not narrowing it down the topics? Let me know which users aren't being narrowed down/filtered based on your search that you think they should be as well. This'll help a lot to see if we can figure out what's going on.

An example is I'm searching for an icon, tagged 'bat', from $5 usd to $15 usd. The URL is https://www.weasyl.com/marketplace?pc=Icon&c=&q=bat&min=5&max=15&currency=

Okay, I'm not sure what good that will do though
https://www.weasyl.com/marketplace?pc=Fullbody&c=&q=macro&min=10&max=50&currency=

I looked at the example you gave. None really covered what you searched for either.

Hello!

I think I can help out some here. If you remember what Hendikins said earlier (remembering that this feature has just gotten rolling)! ...

(To improve the Marketplace, this must happen: )

Artists update their commission information
Artists make better use of the preset commission types
Artists add preference/opt-out tags, which didn't previously exist

I checked out your search. It looks like (as of yet), there aren't artists offering 'fullbody' type commissions who prefer or have tagged in their galleries 'macro'. However, I was able to get some hits by generalizing the type to 'any', and then searching for 'macro', meaning some artists set them as preferred tags. I know this because the results that came back were different.

https://www.weasyl.com/marketplace?pc=&c=&q=macro&min=10&max=50&currency=

A good rule of thumb early will be 'If you're not getting hits on the precise type of commission you want, try 'any' as the type, and also try 'similar common terms to the thing that you want' for the subject matter. Hope this helps!

Maybe custom payment methods would be nice. A lot of people here are poor af :D And they muled a lot of dA points. Would be nice to see that as an option or bitcoins (Remember you have a tor node, this would make it more appealing to tor users).

Ratings for commissions, or at least an upvote option to let people know this person is reliable and does the job or it's a scammer.

Well, that was just a random example. I looked at the link you gave and it isn't any better than my example.
I have tried many searches and nothing I get back is anything close to what I'm looking/asking for.

dA points

We have no intention of supporting this.

bitcoins

We could conceivably support this, but not before our currency framework is significantly overhauled. It would also depend on interest from artists - there's little point in supporting it if artists aren't taking payment in Bitcoin.

All things that could be considered in future.

Has there been any new news about the Marketplace?
I sent it an email about it days ago but have yet to get a reply.
