Its one of the few features I'd like to see implemented on Weasyl from FA. I'm in an office 12 hours a day and I certainly don't want furry dick all over the home page when I visit to check my messages.

You could make it a per-browser setting so you don't have an ugly button on the toolbar, using HTML5 local storage elements so its always enabled in one browser, such as a work machine, and disabled on a home machine without needing to toggle anything constantly.

Has this been suggested yet?

Personally, I think a SFW button would be redundant as you can already filter art through your account settings.
The only viable reason I could see in a SFW button would be comfort as you would not have to walk through the setting everytime just to change the filter, but considering one would find himself in a professional environment, I do not think repetitive actions such as this would be needed.

I'll have to be the one who asks why you'd be checking Weasyl at work, unless you mean checking it on the phone during break or something. In that case, the SFW solution is to wait for privacy.

I could possibly see a benefit for when you check the site in a public place and don't want to offend the sensibilities of those around you, though.

And now I'm going to ponder the wisdom of visiting a site that I wouldn't want known about for various reasons. Hmm.

If the SFW button disables M/A submissions on the front page and submission notification list, but still allows users to view M/A submissions (via direct links), I can see it being useful for artists that don't want to see all the porn but still need access to ref sheets that may contain mature material.

I agree with Eduard; if there's already an option for filtering NSFW art, why do we need another one?

I wanna say some people who enjoy the dirty stuff may also have general work/journals they wanna check. While on the job, having SFW on is a quick and easy way to make sure that nothing you like m/a wise pops up on screen while browsing messages or general srt of the sorts.

But how would mature/adult content pop up from your screen if you disable them from popping up from your user settings?

the user setting can be a bit inconvenient to navigate through. If you want you could also view it as a "nsfw" button, as implied by socks as something you press if you want your content normally at a lower rating but need to sometimes view adult material as well.

Either way I don't think it's a bad idea, and it's something I used myself when I was on FA.

Welp, a SFW button is so much more handy than going through the settings, two times a day :I
It also make it so you still get nsfw submissions in your inbox from people you follow.
Whereas changing the settings back and forth would make you lose out on updates, you'd want once you got home.

I am really sad to see the "Well if I don't need it, it must be useless" attitude, especially as it's a feature people have been very happy to get on other sites. It's not really something I use myself but I can see how it would be helpful to others, also Socks the Fox brings up a valid point (for me at least.) Being able to see people's refs without changing settings back and forth would be neat.

A SFW button would make toggling the setting a lot easier, and quicker.
Back on FA, I always toggled through SFW and NSFW constantly.
I didn't like the adult content, but I did like other themes of work that were Mature.
However, there were times when I would have forgotten to change settings
and had to quickly click the SFW button before eyes could venture to see any NSFW content.

Socks the Fox has a REALLY awesome idea, too.
There were so many times I rolled my eyes to have to change my settings
just to view a ref sheet for a commission I needed to do.

Hi folks!

So to answer everyone's questions on a SFW button (or other quick-access ratings filter), we have in fact looked into having this feature. It turned out to be a complicated task to do, and is dependent on some other code changes that are also in the pipeline. I don't have an ETA for this, but it is on our roadmap.

I look forward to when it can be implemented : >

How about some kind of prefix you put in the URL?

Just like sites have the "m.domain" for mobile access, could there maybe be a "s.weasyl" for safe surfing?
Or maybe weasyl.com/sfw/blablabla, which is the same as weasyl.com/blablabla but with filtered content. I've seen modpanels that work like this, though I don't know how technically feasible it'd be.

I'd like this myself, though not for “work”-related purposes per se. The problem with leaving showing of higher-rated submissions persistently on for me is more that they're naturally distracting, especially if I ever wanted to show things to someone who's physically nearby. In my case, if I had to pick a single toggle, the most pleasing toggle would be Explicit/Moderate.

Using a global setting to solve a local problem is quite troublesome for notifications if they do in fact just vanish if my view rating isn't set high enough. That would actually be a nice way of dividing things: “session” versus “user” rating, with a session's rating constrained to not be higher than that of its user. (Plus an easy-to-reach toggle for the former.) On the user page those could be “default visible” and “maximum” ratings, perhaps. “wide-target” (front page, search, gallery) versus “narrow-target” (individual work, notifications) could be convenient at times, but is probably more complicated and ill-defined than it's worth.

I think the key thing I'd like is a "don't show me M/A by default, but let me view individual submissions with a warning" option.

I don't know if DeviantART still has this, but I remember there being something like this on there. With the Mature filter on, submissions rated Mature would pop up with a warning, and a button that said "view this submission anyway" (or something to that effect). I agree that this would be a nice option to have.

PLEASE THOUGH.

Adding to this idea, being able to hover the thumbnail / main submission of the warned piece and seeing a small preview of what is under it would be nice, too.
Just something you can see quickly, at a glance, to determine whether or not you want to actually click it.

I Always liked DA's warning for Mature content. It's nice to have because
content I'm viewing is more manageable to my liking that way.

I read that a SFW button or something like it is on the way to being implemented some time in the future, but I wanted to post to also say I'd like that button.. A lot.

The purpose of a SFW button (for me) is that it is a temporary change of your permanent settings. For me, most of the time I am cool with the adult art. But sometimes, you want to have a SFW option. Going through your settings every time to change this is redundant and time-consuming. Having a button is easier, because usually I am not in the SFW mode for long.

If the problem with implementing a SFW button is the difficulty, and the problem with using the existing settings is that it's inconvenient, how hard would it be to revise or reposition the rating controls so they're more convenient?
