Howdy everybody!

Spring is just around the corner, and we’re already cleaning off the dust to make way for some news! We’ve made a few updates and bug fixes to the site this year that we would like to share with everyone.

The following updates have been made:

Fixed an issue where users could choose a password that didn’t meet our minimum requirements. Existing passwords will not be changed but new passwords must agree with this policy: “We require a minimum of 8 characters, with at least three out of four of the following character types: lowercase, uppercase, digit and symbol characters.”
Fixed an issue where changes to a user’s timezone were not being reflected
In-gallery music playback should now be more efficient
Updates to phrasing in our Community Guidelines to remove references to “female breasts” and clarify policies on minors in Mature or Explicit rated submissions.
Notifications for friends now remain when changing a submission to friends-only.
Changes to the Registration form day and year selections to use dropdowns instead of manual inputs.
Added Patreon to Social media autofill.
Changed reddit site expansions to https from http.
Fixed an issue with Markdown rendering immediately after punctuation characters.

That’s all for now! Be sure to check out our twitter (https://twitter.com/Weasyl) for discussions of all things Weasyl!

“We require a minimum of 8 characters, with at least three out of four of the following character types: lowercase, uppercase, digit and symbol characters.”

This new password policy is garbage. Let users make whatever stupid password they want. Feel free to suggest these password tips, but don't force them to do so. If someone wants to make their password "password" it'll be their own fault they get hacked.

Better yet, suggest users add another word to their password. That's a lot more secure and memorable (http://xkcd.com/936/) than a password with a bunch of numbers and symbols. Password policies like this are just obtuse.

Other than that, glad to hear about the update.

The password policy also lets you bypass those requirements if the password is at least 15 characters long, but this isn't listed for some reason.

Ah. That's a good system then. It also explains why I haven't been prompted to change mine yet.
