View Full Version : Downscaled image washed out

I uploaded an old charcoal study, most of it is black/dark gray. The resized view on the submission page turned all very light gray, while clicking again for original reveals the correct dark black color.

Another charcoal work affected by the same issue: https://www.weasyl.com/submission/826250/raven

I think I found the common point: They are in Grayscale color space, while this pic, which is in RGB, is unaffected: https://www.weasyl.com/submission/825948/hunter

It's a Gamma correction problem. The images you provided don't have Gamma info in the file, but the image Weasyl offers for preview does. If I replace that gamma data in the preview with some default value, it comes out just like the download file.

I've encountered a very similar issue with one of my submissions, except that it has made a dark image even darker.

If somebody could explain how this gamma data trick Socks is talking about works, so that I might see if my issue is the same problem, it'd be much appreciated.

I tried doing the same thing with yours and it ended up coming out the exact same. Odd, considering they were different values from normal. Even completely removing it doesn't change how it looks here.
