After a year of gametesting, development, convention attendances, miniature manufacturing and modifications the finish line is almost in sight! Perhaps one of the big changes that took place was the paring back of the rules and modification to the core mechanic to develop the junior edition (7+). It was always the intention to have VANGUARD as a game accessible to the younger players as well as the older experienced gamer.

One of the key developments in the junior edition was moving much of the character related information in the book to player reference cards that can be printed out and held by the player for immediate reference and familiarity during play. This also meant that the character sheet could be simplified and stripped of all incidental information like weapon details.

The first module and playtest pack of the game Code Red on the NIMBUS-6 has seen many an outing at conventions around the world, most recently running for multiple sessions at ARCANACON in Melbourne Australia using the Junior rules.

In addition to all the rule development there have been a number of game specific miniatures being sculpted and printed, including MAULs, tanarii aliens and some of the characters from the first module. We're hoping to have more in the future with the view to creation, pick-and-stick parts for players to assemble their own unique characters.

And finally, with the rule development coming to a close we will be looking towards a crowdsourcing option in March (most likely kickstarter) to secure funds for expert editing and additional artwork by industry professionals.

In the meantime, keep the wolvens from your door :)
