I like cats, probably why I use a cat, any interesting stories out there :3 ?

Lets see what we can get!

I love cats, especially the mid-sized wild ones. I identify with them in a way, and I especially love ocelots and snow leopards, so I've switched between the two back and forth. I haven't done much with my 'sonas in a long time, though.

Yes they are :D

I like the way they move their heads to look at people, so cute ;3;

I'd discovered tabletop RPGs and I was reading Discworld and though the latter didn't exactly think much of them, I got way into dragons. I thought they were the coolest thing and I decided that I might actually roll with a dragon (after I decided against gator for some reason).

A while later I found out the in-fandom stereotype for dragons was "insufferable" and kind of pro-dragon, anti-"non-dragons" but I like to think I avoid the latter now that I've evened out but I'm probably insufferable for other reasons :B

Back when I was a teenage angst-machine, I was always angry at just about everything. A few of my online friends at the time happened to be furries, and they suggested that I make a character based on an animal known for being vicious. I landed on the badger and I stuck with it. (I promise I'm not a rage-induced teenager anymore either).

I got the nickname Tiger back when I was just...I think 13 (Back in my Neopets days). Since then I've been crazy obsessed with tigers. When I created my fursona, she was just an extra character I had but she grew on me and now she's my official fursona! And has been since '05 with very slight changes since.

about a week ago I shelled out around $100 on tiger merchandise. Don't regret it, though. (I had been saving the money for months).

Save up and buy a real tiger, ride it around like a horse.

That shit would be insane :3c

I wish! I've already got 9 animals though, not sure I could fit a big cat in my house. :c I have a big, 40" stuffed white tiger, I got a feeling he'll be the biggest one I will ever have.

Unless I find and can afford an even bigger one. :3c

I used to have really severe eczema that was so bad my skin kind of just peeled off and it was generally horrible

(It has gone away since I got a combo of allergy meds that work to keep it from freaking out and a great emollient tho)

Anyway I was like 'well a reptile would probably suit me since they shed their skin' and so I decided on a lizard. I heavily modified a secondhand adoptable I got a long time before and then TA-DA my fursona was born hooray~~~

Saamel- I actually found out recently that there are house cats that legit look like Bengal Tigers. http://www.free-press-release.com/news-toyger-kittens-for-sale-in-beverly-hills-310-276-5509-1298176665.html That would be fun to have :D

Lee that's a pretty cool story, actually, I like how you really incorporated your life into it. :3

Samael

Aw, that's a pretty cool origin story you got there, Lee. Good to hear you got the condition under control! Your icon doesn't look all that lizardy though, though had to be said it's darn adorable. Is that another character of yours?

Also there are fully tiger striped cats? They come in kitten form? BRB, filling my house with kittens.

This is the best idea.

I chose fennec because I've always been fascinated by foxes, and I have a thing for large ears and bushy tails. Typical I know, but at least my interest is genuine.

Samael

The ear-to-face ratio of fennecs makes them all kinds of endearing though. With their regular-animal-with-exagerated-features look they could almost be pokemon.

@ Tiger- Yeah I was originally some fluffy panda-hybrid thing but I wasn't really *~feeling~* it and so when the condition was really bad I suddenly realized like 'MAN I'M SHEEDING LIKE A REPTILE OOOOOHOHHHHH' and then yeah I had a reptile fursona!!! It's fun!

@ Samael- Thanks!!! And yeah I'm so glad it's under control, it flared up over the last week when I experimentally switched to another medication but it's good now that I've switched bacj hahah. AND YEAH I KNOW this icon is really cute and chibi and sprite-like so he doesn't much look like a lizard in it. This is what he looks like not-chibi, more or less:

I picked a Khajiit 'cause I'm a huge fan of the TES games, a total cat person, plus being a Khajiit makes it so I can mold my murrsona's personality and looks as I see fit, without having to change to 2.0 or 3.0 or whatever.

Also, it makes for a kickass biography and gives interesting arts ideas and stuff. I mean holy shit leather armor and daggers.

I love otters, my favorite being the Asian small-clawed variety. They're smart, curious, and playful and actually live in extended family groups unlike most species of otters. I guess it doesn't hurt that I also love swimming and SCUBA diving. I could say a lot more, but it'd be boring.

@Samael- THANKS!!! And NOPE HE HAS LITTLE LIZARD HORNS and yeah the tail looks a little bit bushy in the icon, but it has a little pointed tip that I think (???) is just moving around in a circle. I dunno but the artist made it so goshdarn cute that I really can't complain I just love it a lot!!!

Speaking of Bethesda....
I first found out about tarantula hawk wasps from playing Fallout: New Vegas and encountering cazadors. I thought the design was so neat, so I looked up the animal they were based off of and decided "eh, why not?". And then my 'sona was an alarmingly large wasp.

My fursona was a fox for, basically, forever. In the last couple years, I basically went 'foxes are dumb, but I can't abandon my original character design', so I added opossum to it because possums are both adorable and disgusting.

So, I am now a 'pox'.

Okay I'll bite~

So, when I was about 7 years old, I was exposed to a video game called Super Mario Bros. 3. I played it almost religiously and found myself collecting a lot of Mario toys. There was a time that I would go through the TV Guides and magazines around the house and started drawing raccoon ears, tails, and leaves all over the photos of the people inside. Boy, deeprooted interests and influences come from the weirdest places, huh? Super Mario 3 is probably my favorite game ever, since it pretty much sparked my influence in art. I used to fill spiral notebooks with Mario doodles and hand-drawn level maps. Plus I thought the raccoon thing was pretty cool. As a result, I've specialized in this form of art where you draw an animal with human-like qualities, or "Anthropomorphism", if you will. It's a pretty traditional style of Anthro, unlike this "modern" form that's been floating around, which seem to look a lot more human than animal.

Anyway, that's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it.

My persona/fursona is a little monster. People tend to mistake him for a dog or a rabbit. If he was real, I think he'd look more like an otter/weasel/opossum hybrid, with oddly long ears.

Boogans was a mish-mash of different things because I felt like a mish-mash of a person. He's a pretend critter because I spend most of my time silently playing pretend to cope with everything that goes on, and to cope with my own mental illnesses. He's just, very special and such a personal thing. I don't see myself truly identifying with any other critter I come up with like I do him.

It all sounds dumb, I know.

Birds? Well, it's their overall upbeat personalities I enjoy, or how they go from completely mellowed out to an energetic crazy mess in a moments notice! Heh heh! That goes for fennecs as well (though fennecs are never mellow), the two of them really keep me cheerful at all times.

Also those flauntingly flirtatious feathers! I want a frack'n bush of tail-feathers to bounce around with at cons but I've seen, maybe, two suits engineer that. Too delicate to produce I guess?

As I've grown, though, I decided to add more and more dog to her. I picked shiba inu after looking up their general behavior and such. Plus, they are considered on the smaller side and I'm rather short. XD Now I'm mostly shiba inu and partly timber wolf. :)

Honestly I just like to draw birds, and dinosaurs are cool. So bird-dino it is, hello archeopteryx. It's pretty fun having a character with some of my family heritage too; the most well-known archeopteryx fossil is stored near where it was found, in Berlin. She's small like me, neither of use can fly, and she's extinct, like I will be :v

But I'm apparently a walrus. A running joke that started back years ago when I was watching the discovery channel, wherein I admitted loudly that walruses horrified me. Actually I said "Ugh warrusses are horrifying"

Then the walrus plushies started coming in as crack gifts and so on and so on. Apparently, 'warrus' is a really ridiculous way to say walrus.

Taesolieroy
08-02-2012, 01:52 PM
Hmmm.. This is a tricky one indeeed......

In all technicalities, Taeso appears to be dragonic in form, but there's more behind her than that and the dragon aspect is only skin deep, just ask folks who have taken the time to get to know me - I'm actually rather laid back and accepting of a lot of viewpoints with no real bias towards any artist/style (unless you count some of those extreme fetishes *shudder*) unless they've done/said something nasty at me that was uncalled for, but I'm also rather quiet with random spurts of random goofiness.

As a kid Jurassic Park and Dragonheart were my icon movies, and I drew dinosaurs a lot, followed by dragons for the reason that they're one of the most flexible forms ever to draw (compared to say a cat where the breeds may be different, but the overall anatomy is basically the same). The other thing was I had no particular favorite animal - I liked just about all of them but I had a small 'elite' group of evenly matched faves - birds (namely the falcons/hawks/eagles/owls), wild canines, wild cats, whales (predatorial type), dolphins (no specific species here, they're all amazing in their own little niches), and yes, bats (dem wings o3o not to mention fruit bats are awesome buggers), gryphons, phoenixes, and recently a family of tree possum added to the small group of marsupials (annoyingly known as a Pocket Pet and folks assume SugarBear is the actual name and not the company name of the mill breeders XP ). Folks used to call me the walking encyclopedia with what I knew of animals. During the school years I was labeled 'cat' and 'hawk' by the more annoying pratty 'popular' kids that were intimidated by the way I glared at them during their fits of stupid and silent protective nature over my friends.

When Taeso first appeared she started out as a generic color-mish-mashed anthro dragon for the sake of having something to RP with in the chatrooms. Over time though she's developed into a more concrete character that evolved as I grew and matured in both person and art. She's gradually taken on aspects of the animals I like (she's always been strictly mammalian with fur/feathers and/or hide wings) and is lately leaning towards the extraterrestrial aspect of her designs (my latest critters are just that, yet people still see them as dragons, watthahell?) Right now though I'm struggling with who to pick as an official 'sona since I moved back to my main (personal) account from my hiatus (now commissions) account between Taeso and Azaeil (a more gryphon-like creature). Currently Taeso and her species are still in revamp, but I recently posted some concept work amongst a sketchdump I created of stuff I've doodled over the months. One of the benefits I gave her was the ability to change form, so I wouldn't be stuck with just one during an interaction. In all technicality (even on SL) I referr to myself as a shapeshifter due to how I change avatars in-game, and the sheer number of characters I create/draw as the mood strikes.

Lately I've been attracted to extraterrestrial-type beings as there's much more one can do with imagination in that field than say in mythology. That's not to say I will draw a Xenomorph - that first movie traumatized me when I first accidentally saw it as a kid being played on the TV (I was maybe 3 or 4 at the time, but I had nightmares for the longest time and still vividly remember one scene that no one could tell me which movie it was from :\ ), yet I was able to watch AVP unrated and managed to laugh at a few scenes (wasn't as extreme as the first movie - though I found the effects phony when I watched it again many years later). Even still, I focus more on creating creatures that can specialize in specific environments while maintaining a 'familiar' form folks can relate to. Unfortunately that leads them to being mistaken as dragons even after I state what they are ¬.¬ Regarding Taeso's form, she'll still remain with the dragon-like appearance as her revamp is a re-visit using elements from all her past versions.

I chose the koi fish as my general symbolic/favorite animal because they represent my personality and habits in a number of ways. Goldfish/carp are known for their colors to change drastically over time, especially the koi. A koi is unlikely to have the same colors it was born with by the time it reaches adulthood, symbolizing growth and change over the years. This represents me big time. I acted and spoke a lot differently as a teenager or child than I do now, and I feel that I've grown and developed more as an individual.

Koi also tend to live in and thrive in sloppy environments. I do too. My room is always never 100% organized. Clean, but cluttered. I'm in no way a neatfreak unless I have guests coming over, which isn't often at all.

I've also had experience with koi that just make me like them more. My friend on my street when I was a kid had a koi pond, and I remember going there almost every day after school to see them. The koi were tame enough to eat out of our hands and let us pet them. You're not really able to do that with any other fish, as far as I know, so I grew to like koi very much. I still miss that place to this day. After I moved away from the neighborhood with the koi pond, I always had a pet goldfish, and I always picked the spotted ones because they reminded me of koi.

Haha, well I tend to get bored easily and I like to overthink, so I've never really had a consistent fursona. I think I'm sort of at this point in my life where I'm pretty confused about which direction I was to move in, so I can't pick just one identity and stick with it. There's all sorts of different people I'd like to be, I guess is what I'm saying.

Buhhhh but for the sake of actually answering this question: I tend to go on wiki walks a lot, haha. I'll often find an animal I find aesthetically pleasing, and then proceed to learn a ton about them and sort of fall in love. When I first joined up, I didn't want to have a 'pretty' animal because I didn't feel pretty, so I went through a lot of choices before settling on hyena. Choosing an animal I actually liked helped me choose my next serious persona, which was a black-capped chickadee- and I stuck with that for a /year/. Then I tried on snake, found I didn't like it, and went on to a chameleon-inspired lizard that looks nothing like a chameleon. XDD I made a few rabbit characters, but they aren't so much fursonas rather then exaggerations of some of my personality traits. And just recently, I went back to birds with a double-barred finch.

I'm rambling on here, so I'll just end with a note that I tend to pick animals based on whether or not they seem deceitful or honest. XD The word 'vrai' means true, after all.

It was a weird mishap, my fursona was at first a Holstaurus (female human with cow parts/characteristics) and while on IMVU I found this hybrid deer skin. I later found out which types of deer hold their baby like characteristics (like white tail babies) which were sika deer and I based her off the hybrid like state, still being heavily anthro with more human like features (face structure, feet, hands).

Dogs have been a huge part of my life. I always drew myself as an animal way before I even knew what fursonas were (I just knew I didn't like drawing humans pfff), and though I went through so many representations of myself as a cartoon manimal, eventually a dog is what I always came back to.

That and most artists are super comfortable drawing canines so oops I am a horrible challenge

I actually originally identified my character as a wolf like creature, changed it to an actual wolf, slapped wings on it, then proceeded to be one till about 2011. I changed to a Snow Leopard because I identified, as myself, more toward that species. Rather than a stereotypical wolf. :B

Snow Leopard form actually still has wings some times. <.< When I feel like drawing 'em

Sadly, my fursona was originally a wolf. because she had first come to life when I had joined a wolf RPG back in the summer of 2010. She had gone through a few stages since then. Which included her becoming some sort of mix that consisted of a wolf and a fox (or something along the lines of that), at one point she was a scene wolf (which now that I look back on, is extremely embarrassing) but, I couldn't decide on a species, and all I knew is that I wanted to keep her canine and for her not to be a wolf. So eventually, I just settled on her being a mutt. c:

My first character was a snow leopard, BUT my very first official fursona was a shape-shifting hybrid; mainly a cat with tufted bat ears, scaled dragon feet, small horns, and dragon wings.
My second fursona was basically a male version of my first but looked more like a dog/wolf without the bat ears, scaled feet, and wings; he had bigger horns, goat-like ears, and a long wolf tail.

I now have two fursonas that represent me: one is a dog/mutt alienoid with fluffy ears and tail, and looks like a pit bull or something, and has an alternate alien form and a humanoid alien form; and the other is just a normal dog/mutt also with an alternate human form. Dogs are my favorite animal and they come in so many shapes and sizes and temperaments, and I equate a lot of qualities to myself (loyalty, unconditional love, protectiveness, etc.).

I also have sub-'sonas as well! A cat, otter, house-fly, and dragon (all based on childhood things).

To this day, I cannot figure out my species.

As it turns out, when you've designed your character as a random mishmash of various characters and species for the sake of having an 'original' character, it becomes difficult to actually tell people what species you are. And amusing to hear what they think. To this day, Dingo is the most baffling reply I've ever had.

Tape's a monster of my own species, I decided to go with it because of my fascination with monsters and skullfaces.

So, if I had a 'sona that had to be something from Earth, I'd go for an owl.

Dragon/chameleon/wolf/jackal

Dragon: My fascination for dragons goes back to when I was little. :3 Always loved them and felt a close connection.

Jackal: Their playful nature and friendly attitude is one of my favorite things as well as their love for tricks and sneakiness!

Chameleon: I love the ability to blend into any surrounding. I tend to integrate myself into any situation pretty well.

Wolf: Pack oriented, loyal and canine to the core.

10-25-2012, 07:19 AM
I don't like the light, as I'm light sensible, seeing it directly will cause an instant headache, my skin doesn't take well the light either. And of course, the sun is a great power source, as an engineer I wish to obtain the power of the sun. I want it badly. Therefore the name Skoll, from the norse mythology, Skoll is one of the wolves that is chasing the two most important astral objects of earth, in this case the sun. I find it fun that he wants to devour the sun, while his brother, Hati, wants to devour the moon.

The species is a hybrid of a big wolf just like Skoll, a blue heeler color pattern due a breed that I find quite smart and more powerful than their body seems, fast and silent as well, and added some horns due being an ox and taurus. Therefore four horns, short as having them bigger would be problematic for somethings, such as laying on the back and among other reasons. That's the reason behind the name and species.

11-09-2012, 04:48 AM
I originally had a wolf-fox as my fursona for no other reason that when I drew her she looked like she fit what I was looking for.

I've always liked mixed breed dogs and felt like they represented me well as a person who draws experience, skills and personality from everyone and carries it with them wherever they go.

About 6 months later, about a month ago I decided to draw up a new character which represents me better, which is my new fursona, a Husky-bat, named Carbyn Copy.
She's got half wings hanging off the forearms, a shorter snout than a full canine, a bigger nose and larger ears, but an overall canine form. She's black, neon green, neon purple, neon blue and white. The colors have no real representation that I have figured out yet, as much as they are what came to me to use when I was putting together the character.

I had a handsome Russian Blue boy named Yoggie (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v97/kahshani/Copyof26361383183_ORIG.jpg). Next to eating peas and pastas (and tearing down his brothers' nest to make his own), his favorite thing to do was to nap in my hoodie. He quickly became my writing companion, and while I loved all of my rats, he was especially precious to me. Unfortunately, he was also prone to respiratory issues and had very delicate health. His final illness led to a very fast decline. We fought very hard to save him - in fact, I only just paid off his vet bills, some three years after the fact.

I wanted something to commemorate my lovely boy, and to celebrate my love and support for rats - especially as I was no longer able to commit to fostering and volunteering at my local rat rescue. Because the loss was still so tender, I opted to make my character a Russian Silver, which was as close to a Blue as I was able to allow myself. I attributed all of his best personality traits and rattie habits to her, along with my own passion for writing and making ink-messes.

I initially chose the coyote just because they are fairly common in the area that I live, do their own thing, are adaptive and rather plain. I've probably stuck with the coyote because I think that the coyote and I share these traits and others. People tend to either "love" or "hate" coyotes, just as they do me; I'm not inherently special or rare; I can adapt to just about anything even if I don't wish to; I'm overly cautious... the list goes on. So coincidentally I happened to be much like the species I chose (according to daemian behavioral analysis), even though I initially kind of just chose the species because it came to mind. Funny how things like that work.

How I choose the kangaroo is kind of a long story. I'll try and summarize it at best i can.

Before I found furry I tried quite a few animals. I was a wolf then a dragon/wolf hybrid then an Irish wolfhound. I wasn't happy with them. I then became a pine marten for about a year. At the time I was a member of a Game called Impressive Title, usually characters on that site where feline and canine. I met my best friend on there and he introduced me to furry and in 2011 we met in person at my first furry con, FWA.

Because of his encouragement, I took these doodles of a blue kangaroo that I enjoyed drawing, and made her into a character. At the time I was really getting interested in kangaroos and kangaroo characters. Originally, her name was nobody and she was part dragon and a figment of Yoki's imagination. But a week after that weekend, she had become my fursona, was a pure bred kangaroo and took the name Yoki.

After a few years of trying to find that right fit, I found it in this blue Aussie marked kangaroo, that was an accidental doodle. I am really happy with my fursona and now wouldn't change her for the world.

Opossums are just kinda like my spirit animal, man. Hold onto your butts, I'm going to share shove possum facts in your face.

*If it doesn't kill them, they'll eat it

*They're smart enough to be litter trained and are adorable.

Exhibit A
http://i50.tinypic.com/30rqxd2.jpg

*Sadly, if they become obese in captivity, fatty deposits push their eyes out of their skulls making them cross-eyed and miserable with migraines. This is sad, because they only live between 2 and 4 years anyway, and people are under the assumption that because they eat trash, it's ok to feed them cat food.

Ex 1 http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/methmobile/possum_zps85f4929b.png
and 2 http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/methmobile/cross_eyed_opossum_Zoo_zps2d938e55.jpg

*They're pretty much immune to snake venom, and not just the garden variety kind either. Stuff like timber rattlers, cottonmouths, Russell’s vipers and common Asiatic cobras are cake to these guys. They have a special protein called Lethal Toxin Neutralizing-Factor (LTNF for short) that when they extracted and injected into some lab rats, made them immune to some normally lethal doses of venom from Thailand cobras, Australian taipans, Brazilian rattlesnakes, scorpions, honeybees, and even ricin and the botulinum toxin... to no effect.

*About a third of them will suffer and recover from fractures like it ain't no thang and worse injuries (such as having -chunks- taken out of them when their catatonic) because of their amazing healing ability.

*Males are called Jacks and females Jills. The penis and vagina are -both- forked, like many marsupials, because mother nature is the biggest pervert of all of us. The female also has two uteri and two cervices... because why not? Their reproduction is so effective, they've been recorded at giving birth to up to fifty joeys at a time after only 12 and a half weeks (the shortest gestation period for any mammal), however the nipple race results in most of them being lost :(

*The birth canal, in their case known as the "median" or "psuedo-vaginal canal" only shows up when its time for the babies to be ejected from the mother so they can journey to the pouch. Afterwards, it just seals itself up until the female becomes pregnant again and is ready to have babies.

*They make The Most Terrible Noise Ever.

Let's just cut to the cute bit, though, huh?

And the story behind it is pretty funny.
Until last summer, I was scared of death of almost every animal in the world. But then my parents decided to buy a dog. At the beginning I was still a bit scared, but me and Dex (our Malinois) are now best friends :)

I've always loved animals like rats, vultures, snakes, and hyenas, ones that generally have a strong and often negative symbolism. When I kind of tumbled into the furry fandom a striped hyena being one of the most obscure, under researched ones of the animals I liked seemed to fit. Then the more information that has been found out about them the more they seem to fit ^.^

I chose to be a Kangaroo / Fox Hybrid cuz I wanted something quite unique that probably hasn't ever been done before. ^_^

Actually… I should say that my real first character was a Green Fox, but I never chose to be that character, he's only a part of me because of what I had once seen of him in my dream before a long time ago. I kinda think of him as my conscience, the one who's fully alert to his surroundings and knows of all the dangers around me. His name of course was Green Fox, he sorta looked like a gell-like with a solid form in the shape of a fox, he had no eyes except for the outlining of where the eyes are suppose to be.

It's a bit of a funny story. See, my fursona happens to be a flying (by way of actual wings, mind) vampire bat-wolf whatever thing.

The flying part comes from me being fascinated by the sky and space in particular. The vampire part stems from an extremely long-running RP (which also happens to be undergoing a remake (http://www.zejroleplaying.org/threads/original-a-r-k-n-e-t-a-galaxy-enslaved)) that I was a part of which involved a twist on the common vampire. Not damaged by the sun (which imo made them rather useless in any serious RP) and extremely fast. I took to that type because it was different, and it's stuck with me ever since. Hell, I made quite (http://www.zejroleplaying.org/threads/dark-s-log-of-awesome?pid=6272#pid6272) a (http://www.zejroleplaying.org/threads/dark-s-log-of-awesome?pid=6908#pid6908) considerable (http://www.zejroleplaying.org/threads/dark-s-log-of-awesome?pid=13041#pid13041) amount (http://www.zejroleplaying.org/threads/dark-s-log-of-awesome?pid=16112#pid16112) of characters based on that archetype and managed to make them all quirky in their own way. The formermost happens to be my fursona. The bat part of it is really just a way to explain away the fact that my fursona is winged.

The site linked in the post also happens to be mine~

E: No, neither my fursona nor my other vampire characters sparkle. I hate Twilight. :u

My animal was a lion that mostly started from playing FFVIII. The main character had a lion theme around him that I admired and just kind of stuck. My fursona admittedly is a sort of homage to Griever, the lion Guardian Force in that game whom to the main character was a symbol of pride and strength, which is the same way with mine. Her visage is something beastly and aggressive, but powerful and enduring, and serves as a reminder that I could keep moving forward as long as I was still alive to do so.

Leo also happens to be my zodiac sign, so I kind of took it a little more personally.

My original fursona was a reptile but I felt too serious and well wanted to feel more open and let people know I’m actually pretty friendly.
After a while of role-playing on IMVU, my old friends invited me into a furry family. Where I met my big brother, a arctic fox. We got along great and I really wanted to change my character to one but I couldn’t think of a good reason really. Until I got word that my "brother" has gone missing and is still to this day. I'm still very sad about, but in his honor I’ve changed my fursona to an arctic fox. And I’m happy I did, I’m sure where ever he is...he is happy as well. I'm sorry if this story seems sad, but I thank you for listening. ~Omi

I have a metric ton of animalistic characters and creatures, so I cannot possibly pin down a single instance or reason, and I like a lot of different kinds of animals (and non-animals), therefor they run the gamut. The pervading themes though are a lot of them are either monstrous or fae-like, which comes as no surprise; I've been obsessed with mythology, folklore, monsters and the occult for Gods-know-how-long.

I'm still deciding though I'm leaning towards Mountain Chickadee because they are native to where I live, I love birds and like them I enjoy cold weather, have trouble sitting or standing in one place for too long and I'm not that large/tall (5'4")

On FA I listed my species as “shape shifter”.
Technically I don’t have ‘sona, as such, though there are a number of characters I have that are based on different combinations of different aspects of my personality; I tend to think of them more as my kids than anything else - and if I can ever get over this long-running block of near absolute contempt I get for any art I try to do for myself, I hope I’ll be able to share them with everyone.

The one that I’m closest to at the present time would have to be Tah̀pé.
Here’s a general outline of him:
Species: Western Dragon/Equine Anthro'
Age: Over 21.
Eyes: Green
Height: ~ 6’8” ~ 208cm
Weight: ~ 250lbs. ~ 113.6kg
Description:
Those who have opposed him in battle and survived often refer to him as “Equidae Démonio”, “The Horse Demon” . . .
A true warrior; feared by all that face him and many that fight beside him.
Wielder of “Sole Rend: The Naginata of Dragon Fire” a double bladed staff that he commands with grace, precision and ferocity.

Now I think I’m going to go off somewhere and be quiet for a while…
Feel free to shoot me if this wound up being off toppic.

I chose a blacktip reef shark.

Sharks are more often timid and harmless, especially reef sharks, but they have a bite if you're not careful. ;3

I chose werewolf because I felt it represented me the most. Every month I'd be a hideous, growling bitch until I just taper off to being grumpy.

I had pet rats around the same time I discovered furry. I didn't have many friends, so they were my little buddies. :3 When I decided I should try to make a fursona, it ended up as a rat. Each time I get mad at my 'sona for looking like poop, I try to remake it and always land on rat again. I haven't even had pet rats for the past year and it STILL happened with my most recent redesign.

I chose my 'sona because growing up, Neopets was a major part of my life and I always wanted an Island Bori but could never afford the Island Brush. So, I'm finally going to have my Island Bori, Elbi <3 They're described as timid creatures who are slow to anger, but once they do, you better steer clear! I felt like they were a cute fuzzy version of Taurus, my star sign.

Aquin is my animal totem, what you see as my avatar, is what i see as my spirit. Simply put, Aquin is my spiritual self manifested in an art form. I am kinda shamanistic and it helped with the decision, but it took years to actually figure out what he was. He is almost an alien like species.

I chose a Lizard due to my love for reptiles and those who're often viewed as an udnerdog. Lizards are tiny little creatures not capable of much and that gets me right in the feels.
I also made him a ghost because... well I like ghosts! I like the concept of being without directly interacting or contributing to a lot to any given situation, but still having an omnipotent/omniscience about it. Not to mention the incredibly simple concept. I didn't want anything to elaborate representing me. I like to keep it as humble as possible.

I know a lot of people choose theirs due to the fact of liking that animal, but I feel like my personality best connects with that of a weasel. I love teasing people, am quite clever, have a way with mischief and love taking small things from other people to fill my room.

Once I learned about the existence of ferrets, I absolutely cannot think of a better animal for me to have as a pet. As I'm just a couple years away from ending my contract in the Army, I am really looking forward to have a few of those rambunctious rascals living with me in my house.

As I said, many people choose their fursonas based on what animals they like, where as I found out what animal I like most due to learning more about my own self.

The history of my fursona is a long one.

Like ten years ago I was basically an anthro winged unicorn. I just thought it was rather interesting. I don't know why it didn't stick, but I guess I'm a little glad that it didn't. (Some people find equines hard to draw, and charge extra for wings.)

If anything it's because I just happen to have a lot of furry ADHD.

I've been obsessed with wolves and dogs since I was a kid. Still am. As many dumb, disgusting things as dogs do, and as much as I would never ever want to own a wolf or wolf hybrid (nor would I care to tend sheep with them around), I still find them both to be really interesting and endearing animals and will talk at embarrassing lengths about them. I am still fascinated by the fact that humans, diurnal group predators, managed to work with wolves, another diurnal group predator, eventually leading to a critter that is so adapted to reading our body language and comes in many different specialized breeds for different jobs, and that we would've had a much harder time keeping livestock without.

So basically, "I picked a wolf because I like those." >.>

Been considering switching to a deer or rabbit for a 'sona, though; they have a fidgety look of near-constant terror that I feel would be appropriate for me, hah.

I didn't actually really know what an otter was until after joining the fandom, as otters don't exist in my Country, and I never bothered looking twice at what they were.

At first It started as a grand crusade to put the otter power to a stop on FAF, but long story short, I saw the light and stepped unto the grand pantheon of justice.

I'm damn scared of lizards and gecko.

Through console and online games, I've come to find out just how damn adorable and edible these creatures truly are if they are actually as big as us.

Such body.
Such adorable eyes.

Because the damn animal had the worst past with me irl (and I'm still damn scared of their surprise attack) the flip also had the most impact. Like, really. If you love someone and you suddenly start to hate thme, you just want to gut them. This isn't the case when you're just friend and you're like "fine, leave me." Same logic applies here.

So I can say that

OUT OF FEAR
LOVE IS BORN.

I've always been really into dragons even as a child. I made a character and eventually it became slowly more dragon like until he's what he is today. He's part kangaroo because I adore kangaroo's as well and I remember as a child asking my dad if we could have a kangaroo so we looked them up on the computer and learned all about them that day.

It was really special and that memory is one of my favorites from my childhood.

As for my alt he was based on my roleplay character that developed into a moth cybug. I've always thought bugs where pretty cool any way and moths are just downright adorable so i'm either a Robotic Moth or a fuzzy dragonroo monster alien thing.

Calvin & Hobbes was always a huge influence on me, and I was fortunate to be able to start reading them right as the comics ended. I am absolutely delighted by tigers regardless, and share that same trait of standing out yet still just blending in without even trying. It's a weird existence to live sometimes, haha. Still, having a tiger for a fursona is a strong motivating force to keep in shape, push myself, and remind myself to keep trying, but also to relax when things don't go my way. For as amazing as a tiger is, they have to try over and over and over to get food to survive. I respect them immensely.

Also, they -love- the water, something I can totally relate to. :D

You... you are awesome. I love hyenas probably because of that one single fact, and besides all the other things ecologically wrong with The Lion King, I've had a borderline vendetta against it because of the way it impacted real life hyenas. I sort of base my 'sona off my appearance
Tigers have stripes, I have stripes (lots of scars, but y'know xD)
Plus, I work at a zoo, and whenever I go to the tiger exhibit the older male likes to press his nose to the glass like he's happy to see me and/or wants me as a snack. Tigers are just amazing overall.

Shaaark! Specifically blacktip reef, because they live in the places I love the most - warm, tropical waters.

I've always been very close with sharks since I was a kiddo, and studied marine biology in school. I had dreamed of working with them at some point before I shifted my full focus to art. They're often misunderstood animals (they're just big fish after all) and very threatened and I've always wanted to do all I can to help them and other ocean life.

Truth be told when I first started drawing myself as an animal, I was an orange tabby cat! LOL. That was way back at 11 years old (I'm in my mid-20's now). Over the years my childhood dog grew on me, and when I moved out for school in 2009, it hit me how much I missed her and how big a part of me she was. My friends started associating me with dachshunds since I talked about her so often. Then I applied for an animagus stamp on a Harry Potter community I frequent on livejournal a few years ago, fully expecting to be stamped as an otter... but someone gave me a dachshund stamp. The more I researched and thought of my dog, the more I realized she was right-- my personality is essentially a dachshund personality. So I chose it as my animagus, and that was when I decided my look (brown and tan standard shorthair, cream chest-tuft shaped like a wing, green eyes). That has been me since 2010, and I don't see it changing. c:

When I first decided to create a fursona, I chose an incredibly basic solid black wolf. But even though I mulled over the character for days, I couldn't even come up with a unique design, much less a personality or anything else important. Then it hit me to change them into a hyena, because like others have said, they're given a bad rap despite being really cool, and things just spiraled from there. I was able to give them a personality, a detailed background, and they just evolved into a full character that I could still see myself in. Plus I like the facial shape of canine characters, but having a canine as a fursona just didn't sit very well with me, probably because people are more likely to describe me as a cat than a dog. So a hyena is a happy medium.
