AGDQ (Awesome Games Done Quick) (http://gamesdonequick.com/) is a speedrunning marathon that goes on for a week in order to raise money for charity. For those who don't know, speedrunning is when someone plays a video game and tries to beat as fast as possible. Sometimes it's done by just finding the fastest route possible, sometimes it's done by exploiting glitches in the game.

This year, their charity is the Prevent Cancer Foundation (http://preventcancer.org/). Each year they raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for their charities of choice and I always try to watch it when it's going on, even if it's not a game I'm particularly into.

You can check out their schedule here (http://gamesdonequick.com/schedule).

Personally, I'm really looking forward to seeing Cosmo's speedrun of Windwaker HD. The way he's able to totally break the games he plays is just amazing to me haha.

Thank you for posting this. I always wanted to see more on what gamers do for charity. I remember there was a fundraiser in the past that was completely ignored even though gamers had raised food for the hungry and homeless.

Yeah, I hadn't even heard of this, but now I'm probably going to watch. I personally love speedruns, no matter what game it is; It's fun to see the game break from time to time as people shave off extra seconds on their completion times. Speedruns for charity are even better. :3

Speedruns! Much entertainment. Looking at the schedule for tomorrow I think I'll give the Cave Story run a watch (gotta look for tips >>).

I love AGDQ. One straight week of no boredom. And no work being done. It seems like there's a bigger live audience than usual for the runs. I like that. The applause has a nice reverb to it.

I'm most excited for the Super Metroid race on Friday and giuocob's Link's Awakening DX run on Tuesday.

Sweet, Zoast is running! I watched him break his WR recently, it was more amazing than it should've been.

Zoast is great, and so is the Ivan guy he's racing against, and so is giuocob for the same reason. I like watching runners who don't get pissy and scream shit like "what the fuck is wrong with this game?!" whenever they make a mistake. They're rarer than I'd wish, but AGDQ kind of kicks ass for this because for the most part people are doing more relaxed runs and doing it for fun.

It's so much easier to watch.

Damnit I missed the majority of the Super Monkey Ball 2 race (really wishing I had double monitors right now for this kind of thing), but really looking forward to the Kirby's Adventure run.

The fucking inside jokes. lol
KILL THE ANIMALS in the chat. xD

"Kill the animals" is a classic that I've seen come up during every single one of these marathons haha.

Explanation for those not familiar: During the end count down in Super Metroid, there is a room you can open up that has some birds in it. You can decide to let the birds live or to let them die. Speedrunners tend to hate letting the animals live since it adds quite a few seconds to the run. The only effect it has on the ending scene is that there's like...a single white pixel that comes out at the end to indicate you saved the animals :P

Man, I can't stand the chat. There's a girl setting up a game right now, so of course that means there needs to be an endless stream of

GIRL ON STREAM
OMG A GIRL
THERES A GIRL ON HER KNEES kreygasm

I mean, I'm sure there's a certain level of self-awareness or self-mockery to a few of the messages, but Jesus Christ. Is it still a joke if every single person is doing it in unison?

And I miss BlueGlass.

The Yoshi's Island run has been really fun. Then they got a fire alarm and this happened:

Lmao

But they've hit $100,000 already! I hope they're able to hit $1 million this year, that'd be really awesome.

PROTIP: Turn off the Twitch feed.

Go the IRC channel instead. The Twitch feed just makes me hate people and reminds me of why teenagers (and mental teenagers) are all grotesque, ugly freaks.

I'm afraid I donation-enticement contributed to the abuse of M1_Account during his Cave Story run. But at least it was a loving kiss instead of a meaty slap.

Oh man they've hit their 500k and bumped up the new goal to 750k.

I hope they hit a million this year, that'd be amazing.

These next hours are going to be my favorite of AGDQ.

Zoast running
Cosmo and giuocob on a couch
Blueglass staring in amazement
Ocarina of Time race
Majoras Mask
Metroid race
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark

It's gonna be wonderful.

It's almost as bad as "YSG <3" or any variant every time BlueGlass is around and laughing or doing anything.

AGDQ has been awesome this year, still need to go watch the VOD of the Super Metroid race, heard the ending was hype. Picked up some shirts from The Yetee too, since part of the proceeds go to the AGDQ donations and I liked the designs. Punch-Out and Super Punch-Out blindfolded were great, right up there with F-Zero GX and the late night Barkley hilarity. Also glad they hit the $30k donation incentive for 100% Chrono Trigger late tonight. Here's to hoping they hit $800k at the very least, not counting any during the bonus stream.

Well the thing is over. They somehow managed to net more than a million dollars for charity, which is absolutely phenomenal. They seriously pushed about 200k in the last two games, and that alone would have surpassed the entire AGDQ from two years ago. I thought they were close to maxing out last year and was only hoping they'd break 500k, but uh, I'm extremely happy to be wrong.

They're gonna have some bonus streams going on the next few days, so there's still fun to be had. The schedule isn't concrete for that, but Yoshi's Cookie is happening right now (http://gamesdonequick.com/), if you're interested.

Also, if you missed any runs that you're interested in, you should check this catalogue out which is the first and probably last time I will link to reddit. (http://www.reddit.com/r/speedrun/comments/1ui4dn/agdq_vods_thread/) I'm gonna recommend the Super Metroid race (http://www.twitch.tv/speeddemosarchivesda/b/494222408?t=7h51m20s), which lived up to my expectations and beyond, and the Goldeneye co-op (http://www.twitch.tv/speeddemosarchivesda/b/494222408?t=10h20m52s), which is just insane.

Have fun. And they're still taking donations.

Thanks for posting that link, it's the first time Reddit's ever been useful for something c:

There is much to be watched. And re-watched, I had problems with streaming practically everyday of this.
