Hey, Everybody!

We’re back with another reporting tip, this on how to get the best possible response from staff when addressing technical issues with the site.

As you’re all aware, sites like ours often experience issues with slowdowns, unresponsive features, or even downtime. As we move forward in this beta period, we are constantly trying to fix underlying issues and limit downtime. Your reports and suggestions have been instrumental in helping make us a more efficient site and improving the overall Weasyl experience.

There are several ways of contacting site staff. You can use our forums, ask through Tumblr, or by e-mail support@weasyl.com. However, we generally discourage using Twitter as a means of getting help for technical issues as you’ll see below.

When contacting staff, it is important that you attempt to be as specific as possible about the issue you’re experiencing. This can be accomplished through using a combination of screenshots, exact error messages, and a brief yet detailed explanation of how you discovered the problem. Remember, it’s always best to describe how you reached an issue as if you were explaining to someone how to use the site, step-by-step. Our goal is to solve your technical issues as quickly as possible, and with this detailed information, our staff will be able to more easily identify and correct issues you may be having.

For further details, please review this thread: http://forums.weasyl.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?1655-READ-FIRST-REQUIREMENTS-for-useful-support-threads ( http://forums.weasyl.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?1655-READ-FIRST-REQUIREMENTS-for-useful-support-threads).

A few quick notes:

- we’ve recently updated the “Settings” tab to have “streaming notifications” as its own option. You can now set an expiration timer for your stream feeds using this option. API keys have also been added to the “Settings” tab.

- the options to follow, friend, or ignore have been removed from your personal page. Further, overly long username will no longer “break” certain pages.

- when viewing a visual submission, you can now simply click the image and it will automatically take you to the “download” URL for a bigger version of the submission.

- if you try to navigate away from the “add a thumbnail” page while making a submission, a popup will warn you. This will prevent submissions from getting “lost”, which would require you to start the uploading process again.

- we’ve added a “Writing and Literature” section to our forums. Please feel free to use this section to discuss your favorite stories and poems while also offering and receiving advice and critique with our writing community.

That’s all for now users! Please be sure to follow us on Tumblr (http://weasyl.tumblr.com/), Twitter (https://twitter.com/Weasyl), and join our forums to keep up-to-date with more Weasyl news! See you on the site!

Awesome updates, I really love the full view clicking. Great addition. :)

Also just a heads up, I'm getting a 404 message when clicking the link to the support threads page in the post.

While of course this makes perfect sense to remove, because they'll never 'do' anything, I may almost miss the zen notification 'You cannot ignore yourself!'
