Huge Android fan here. Everything from it's customizability to its interface is amazing. 4.2 is going to be the best thing for android since gingerbread, because of one feature, USER ACCOUNTS! I can't wait. I'll be standing by with my Galaxy SIII to flash the first version developed for it. ^^

Riiiight well apparently I don't know what has happened to Toki Tori since it seems to have disappeared from the Marketplace, I got the APK for Gameboid off Google and I'm not linking it because legal reasons and as for Lets Golf 2 it's not on the marketplace as Gameloft sell it via their website here http://www.gameloft.co.uk/android-games/lets-golf-2/.

According to you if it's not on Google Play then it doesn't exist, Well done.

IMO (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.imo.android.imoim&feature=search_result) (chat programme, though currently an older version where they aren't talking about sharing locations)

It lets me google things and has threaded text, and got a good data plan so no complaints here. Might switch to iOS down the road but it's great for now.

According to the topic title, I qualify for exactly half of this conversation, but I like to round up.

I just got a Droid 4 a couple weeks ago. If it weren't for podcasts surreptitiously bleeding my data usage while on pause, I'd have nothing bad to say about it. I don't have a ton of fun apps besides Plague Inc, but it's intensely practical. It's sort of hard to remember what life was like before I could diffuse pedantic conversations by looking up Wikipedia. Yes, all of the voiceless plosives in Klingon are aspirated. Talk about something else.

Edit: I didn't want to upset fans of Klingon. I hear there's an opera, which is something.

I'm a huge Google and Android fan.
I've got a Nexus 7 running Jellybean, used to own an HTC Evo 4G that was flashed to Cyanogen Gingerbread.

I use my N7 for EVERYTHING. Google and Asus really outdid themselves with this tablet.
I use it for shopping lists, emails, college assignments and heck I've even got a Powerpoint and Microsoft Word copycat app and graphing calculator on it.

why is the title "furs"? not everyone here is a fur

aaaanyway I have a Droid Incredible II, but I want a Galaxy very bad.
My father got me into android phones and I love how customizeable they are. My current droid lags a little bit, but I'm sure that's because it has a lot of apps from the person who owned it last. I might have to uninstall those.

I recently managed to snag a promotional deal that gave me 200MB of data a month and way better options for my current phone plan (caller ID, long distance, voicemail, etc as well!) for $5 more than my plan was, so I swapped it. Decided I needed a new phone, Samsung Galaxy Ace was on promo and snagged one for $0.67 cause of my account balance points or whatever.

So far I love the phone, it's quite neat. I may root it sometime and upgrade it off of Icecream or whatever.

For recommended apps I recommend SwiftKey, great for fast texters like me who don't want to learn Swype or whatever.

I'm a deal that is probably so awesome that I wouldn't change. =3

27/month contract: Unlimited data, plus tethering, unlimited texts (not that I need unlimited, but maybe 300), 300 minutes to anyone and a free Samsung Galaxy Mini =3

A few weeks ago, after seeing dozens of furs with them, I pushed a Nexus 7 and loved it so much my new Nexus 4 arrived today! I'm over the moon but I need to cut my SIM before I can use it.

I'm using GiffGaff, and for 12 pay as you go, I get 250 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited data. :-)

Though they don't allow you to tether that data, from what I believe, otherwise I would of bought another Sony Ericsson Cedar and got that sim tariff. Maybe once they allow tethering again, though I do enjoy wireless tethering...

Nightpaws
12-08-2012, 01:56 PM
Their definition of tethering is using more data than could physically be stored on the phone in general use, which is a really fuzzy amount but fine for internet browsing and the odd download :-)

Sparky15756
12-09-2012, 05:38 AM
What I meant by tethering is using the phone, with a cable, as a modem for an internet connection to your laptop. I done it with my old Sony Ericsson Cedar, a phone that every phone shop said that could tether, and it was great. Yeah, phone shops said I couldn't tether that phone and I did~

I'm stuck on an LG G2x with CyanogenMod 7.

At the moment, I'm waiting out the time until I can dump this poorly supported (by both T-Mobile and the dev community) thing in a few months and get a Galaxy S IV. The thing looks like it's going to be so freaking awesome.

I just went with a Nexus 4 this week, I've had a HTC Wildfire for the past 2 years and the Nexus blew me away, everything is so zippy and smooth!

I was going to go GiffGaff but Virgin are offering free texts and data for 10 on monthly pay as you go (and I have a friend working there that can offer me a friends and family discount) - waaay better than the crummy 21 T-Mobile were asking for. I dunno what voodoo magic Google and LG cast to sell their phone that cheap, but it's well worth saving the extra 11 I would of paid on contract

Also I thought the 10 GiffGaff Goodybag now allowed teathering? That's what the community forums were suggesting anyway

Galaxy Player 5.0 with rooted stock here. Sadly, this is 2.3.5. I... can -technically- use ICS and JB, but at the expense of camera support. (and I think sound, too, in JB's case, though this may be fixed? I'd have to try it) Kind of a deal breaker for me. ICS was nice on it, but I was loaned a Galaxy S III at the time so I wasn't really hampered by the non-functional camera. As soon as I gave it back, Gingerbread went right back on it. If you don't use the camera at all, though, it's worth the upgrade.

There's also a Nook Tablet here running CM10. Pretty decent experience!

Also re: Tiny Tower on Galaxy Player 5.0 from earlier in the thread: It will actually work under CM9. I don't know -why- it can't be run on stock, considering I remember it possibly working on the Nook under CM7? bleh.

I have Samsung Galaxy S2 with Ice Cream Sandwich 4.1.1, loaded with CyanogenMod 9 ROM with root.

I find it terrible sometimes sometimes there's certain app I want to get but it's not available for my device because it doesn't support it. Also have that another annoyance with CM9 I'm currently running, it's unable to read contacts off my SIM card properly despite trying many work arounds… actually for quite some time now I've been trying to figure out how to restore the phone to it's original stock ROM for Galaxy S2 with ICS 4.1.1, cuz there's quite alot of features on there that I liked before changing to CM9 ROM.

the stock ROM had features like Call Blocking/Blacklist which is really useful, cuz from time to time I get those annoying calls I don't want. >.< Plus it's able to read my SIM Card properly and show all the available contacts that are on the SIM Card.

I may decide to swap out and get a Nexus 7 or something someday to replace this Galaxy S2.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/ should almost certainly have the stock ROM for your phone and instructions on flashing it. The version you find is irrelevant since you can always update it to the latest stock version via Kies. In the future you should always create a backup before rooting or flashing a new ROM.

I did create a backup of my previous ROM… or at least I thought I did… I used Titanium Backup and ROM Manager to backup the current existing ROM before installing CM9, but they obviously didn't work. >.>

Been trying to look for the stock ROM that's already been rooted, cuz I had few implications with not being able to install root, hence part of why I shifted to CM9 because the current root installers didn't work properly cuz BusyBox kept returning errors that it didn't install correctly and to try a different version, but it was like that for every version I tried that didn't work.

Titanium Backup is for backing up apps and data. ROM backups have to happen through recovery. I you give me your device model, e.g. SGH-1777, I can probably find some proper instructions on returning to stock and rooting.

Samsung Captivate running Slimbean 4.2.1 and loving it. <3

Just wanted to pop in and recommend an app for lower-end phones like the Captivate which have such small RAM.
Its called Greenify, its takes the apps that well, act bad, like Facebook or Google Maps and puts them into a hibernation mode, not frozen, but not active, its GREAT. This does wonders to my phone, I've got all these misbehaving apps finally under control and my phone is lighting fast because of it. Best part? (Yes it gets better) Its free. FREE!

No more envy of your friend's iPhone which never become slow and battery hungry after lots of apps installed. With Greenify, your Android device can also run almost as smooth and lasting as the first day you have it!
Greenify help you identify and put the bad behaving apps into hibernation when you are not using them, stop them from battery leeching, memory hogging and stealthy running, in an elegant and unique way! They could do nothing without your explicit launch, while still have full functionality when running in foreground. Like what iOS apps act!

Greenify on Playstore (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify#?t=W251bGwsMSwxL DIxMiwiY29tLm9hc2lzZmVuZy5ncmVlbmlmeSJd)
Greenify on XDA (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155737)

ALSO, a battery recommendation for Captivate users!
RAV Power Batteries (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007T3U0X8/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Its a great deal for a 1800mA battery, the universal charger works great too, you can stick pretty much any cell phone battery into it for charging AND its got a side USB port and I do believe it acts as an external charger for on the go charging.

my current model of Samsung Galaxy S2 is the GT–I9100, and it's non-carrier locked, I never bothered buying those silly little contract phones as I usually go Pay-As-You-Go cuz it's cheaper. If you're able to find stock ROM that's all ready got root ready that should do fine I think, I've not had any luck finding it though.

If you still want root then the easiest option is probably to find a minimally altered ROM and simply flash it. Otherwise you're going to have to deal with configuring and rooting a downloaded stock ROM. I'd recommend such a ROM but your model has so damn many across equally numerous device variants that I wouldn't know where to start.

If you want to flash and root a stock firmware you probably want to look over some of these links:
