Does anyone else on here collect things? It can be anything, plush, figures, bottle caps, video games, whatever. Share photos and talk about your collections here!

As I mentioned in my intro thread, I collect toys. Specifically, Pokemon toys. I've got some specific-Pokemon collections as well as unspecific ones.

This is just the majority of my random Pokemon Plush. Unfortunately, a lot of them can't be seen as they are stacked on top of each other. I don't really have a good way of displaying them all together yet, so this is the best I can do.

As for my Specific-Pokemon collections, I collect my favorite Pokemon; Mantyke and Audino:

http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m087z8RDAz1qbaxcpo1_500.jpg

Both of these shots are currently out of date but I haven't added a whole lot that makes it worth retaking photos.

I also collect other toys, my other main collection would be Mamegoma Plush:

http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lt4sy1WWNF1r4hhpio1_500.jpg

My seals chill out on one of my sofas. Though in general, my toys are all over the house, considering I don't have any bookcases or something else to display them properly in.

I've got loads of other figures and plushes that aren't related to mamegoma or Pokemon but I don't have any good photos of them :x

You can see singular photos of all the items included collections on my toy blog (http://plushcrush.tumblr.com/).

I collect things, but I'm not entirely sure how well real fur/bone collections would go over. I'd be glad to share if people wouldn't get upset over it though!

(You can see I'm starting an opossum and otter collection too.)

Last but not least, my dragon/reptile/Mameshiba/cats/Misc. collections. As well as some of my Beanie Babys (most of them are in storage though)

My room is small, so I don't have enough room to display all I'd like to, haha.

I collect cat hair, mainly because my Cat sheds EVERYWHERE! -sneezes- but seriously I collect old fairy tale books (I actually own a first edition Bambi from Germany) and a lot of Drawing help books (Mainly How to Draw Manga series, but some actual anatomy and painting ones too), but as far as stuffed animals, and stuff I can't really use? not so much now, since I have to share my bedroom with my husband...no more stuffed animals for me ;..;

I have a thing for the Guardians of Ga'Hoole books. I have one of all the original series and I have the first of the wolf spin-off series (which I need to read). It's lit for young kids but I grew up with them. I need to watch the movie, too, I have it downloaded but I've put it off for anime and games and stuff for... well, a long time now.

Somewhat related: I have a plush barn owl. :3

I collect pretty rocks and pine cones. Used to collect feathers but it was getting out of control so I got rid of that.

I also collect cat whiskers. See, I have cats, and they periodically shed a whisker, and at first I just threw them out, but then I thought, "whiskers are too cool to throw away" so I started collecting them.

And I'm not sure if this counts, since it's not physical stuff...I collect information. Quotes, funny things people say, interesting bits of trivia, etc. I don't really do anything with them, but I must have them all!

My collection is nothing to look at compared to the photos so I won't go looking for my animals, but for the longest I'd buy and was gifted stuffed animals. I collect retro video games, especially RPGs. I define retro as "anything made in the 20th century".

Currently I own these consoles:

- ColecoVision (with Atari extension)
- Atari 2600
- NES
- Sega Master System (2 - one functioning)
- Sega Genesis
- N64
- Game Gear
- Game Boy Color (special Pikachu edition)
- Gamecube (with GBA player)

I want a Virtual Boy and SNES next.

I have a small amount of games for each system (Most of my collection is 200 Atari titles and about 30 NES titles, thanks to yard sale grabs), but mostly I want to collect games that are historically significant rather than be a completionist. For example, in my Atari collection I have Adventure (the first game to feature an easter egg), Swordquest (Fireworld - significant because it was part of a contest with extravagant prizes), and E.T. (surprisingly actually "Quality" for being coded in 6 months by one man).

I'm also attempting to collect all the Pokemon games, FF cartridges (currently I have 1 and 3j), Phantasy Star 1-4, Dragon Warrior/Quest 2 and 4, and I would just love to afford a copy of Earthbound some day.

And when it is all complete I'm going to build the most epic containment system for all my consoles.

Luckily the majority of those are Vertigo collections of titles like Transmetropolitan and Preacher so they don't really count, haha. :P

On the subject of Earthbound, good luck. I tried getting one for 70 beans back in the day and I thought that was way too much. Now i'm kicking myself every day of the week because I didnt snap buy it.

If you're really into RPG's btw, you should totally look into the SNES. They have some the best RPG's made. Examples being Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy II and III (4 and 6 respectively), Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore. All pretty top notch games.

If you're as crazy as I am about this stuff, I've been in the market for a TurboGrapfx 16. Pretty underrated system. As well as a Neo Geo, but those are still really expensive.

YES LET'S TALK ABOUT GAMES

Part of the reason I collect games is to "prove they exist". There's the rumor that E.T. was so rushed and so bad, all unsold and returned copies were buried in concrete... so of course I had to have a copy and try it for myself. (It's actually pretty good considering the circumstances) I managed to find Tengen's Tetris in my first NES grab, which of course is important because of that one lawsuit. (It's actually a much better version than Nintendo's)

Oh yeah. I want all the standard SNES titles. Before I was into furry I was a massive Square/Squaresoft fangirl and played pretty much every Square game I could to completion via emulator. So I have clear goals about the SNES titles I want to obtain, it's just that the games everyone loves are extremely high in demand since it was such a fondly-remembered and generally loved console, so I can't really spring on those just yet.

I know two friends who have a copy of Earthbound but I doubt I will be able to pry it away from them. Positively, this means I will always have free access to a copy, but it will never truly be mine ;__; Earthbound isn't the worst in terms of cost, though. FF1 and Chrono trigger are also in extremely high demand, at $60 and higher. Also, Cheetahmen II reportedly sells for $500, not that it's worth it by ANY means.

Oh, I also want a Vectrex. AFAIK most people don't even know about/remember them since they were released just before the Game Crash. I think they're neat because they're pretty much completely self contained. I hadn't considered Turbo Grafix or Neo Geo though... I will have to add those to my list. Atari Jaguar might be a decent grab too, but they pretty much never work due to bad design or construction and reportedly are nearly impossible to repair so if I ever do get one, it'd basically be relegated to "game museum" duty.

I want to eventually assemble the Sega Ark of Dreams, too. Imagine a Genesis Model 1 sitting on top of a Sega CD Model 2 with a tray extender, a 32X unit, and topped off with Sonic 3 & Knuckles. It is truly a beautiful sight. The 32x, of course, stacks, as does Sonic (I have seen a photo of 24 games plugged in at once, WORKING PERFECTLY) ... so it has the potential to become a truly massive, tentacord-ridden beast.

Beyond collecting, I also do cartridge restoration and want to get into console repair/replacement and possibly even modding (I've had plans to build a wooden, working NES). Right now my cleaning is pretty much limited to the standard stuff - pins and sticker/sharpie removal - but I want to be able to accurately reprint/laminate labels and replace batteries in the future. (I'm hesitant though - I'm not a trained solderer and battery explosions are never, ever pleasant)

But yes GAMES GAMES GAMES OMG NO ONE APPRECIATES THEM LIKE I DO :(

Collecting games is fun! I'd say my most prized game is a copy of Lunar Silver Star Story Complete, which is one of the most expensive PS games after Megaman Legends.

I found it in a yard sale for 1$ too, yay. It's a shame the game is total shit, though. Sometimes you wonder why they're worth so much.

BudgieBin
08-09-2012, 02:06 PM
Yeah, you know, it's absolutely crazy what you can find at a yard sale.

$60 got me oh, probably 60 NES games, a console and a ROB. Some rare games, mostly common, but has a lot of the "core set" and a few are even in box (dragon warrior boxed is high in demand)

I spent $35 and got the genesis, master systems, atari, colecovision + adapter, a total of about 230 games for those consoles, and a whole ton of controllers and peripherals for each. I have yet to turn the cartridges over to ebay like I intended, but some of the Atari games are worth $10, some even more, so it is actually a sort of lucrative business if you're a shrewd businessman and can get them in bulk often enough.

The other problem is getting rid of the really common cartridges that just can't sell, or aren't worth it. This is when you turn 'em into "nostalgic" MP3 players or external hard drives. :P

Since we're on the topic of retro games, have you considered trying to collect japanese consoles? I currently only own a Famicom along with the Famicom Disk System.

What's so attractive about the famicom is the amount of pirated games people have made for it. My favorites of the bunch are the bootleg "Mario" series.

Notable titles are

Super Mario World (NES)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZnl4eyu_Ao

Super Mario Bros 8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-idg7cOtGk

Super Mario Bros 4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsKoFn-5-aQ

and my all time favorite, Somari
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwBKW0kDHIQ

Along with pirate games and the like, there a large amount of great games made that never reached American shores. I believe someone under the name "Jewwario" or something does a series based on Japanese games that are fun to play and don't need a very large grasp of japanese to understand. I would check him out if you're interested in it at all.

As for current ventures, i'm trying to get my hands on a copy of Mega Man 3. Be it famicom or NES, I want it. It's my all time favorite Mega Man game.

BudgieBin
08-09-2012, 10:48 PM
I have considered getting a Famicom, but it's pretty low on my priority list since it is possible to play Famicom on the NES. You can buy an adapter online, or if you're lucky, some early NES games like Pinball or Gyromite might have an adapter already inside. I heard that the first sets of games had to be rushed out the holiday, so some magic with an intermediary board and connector was accomplished. There's every possibility that this is not true, but if you consider that a NES circuit board only takes up half the size of the cartridge, but a Famicom cart houses the board quite snugly, it seems like a reasonable answer.

At the least, Japanese Zelda 1 might be a good reason to get an actual Famicom, because of the microphone functionality for the Pols Voice ("rabbit") enemy.

Something really interesting to get my hands on would be a Dendy, a NES pirate/knockoff from Russia (the one place NESes were never sold). Apparently, it was extremely popular and has a very wide range of good games.

As for pirate games themselves... not so interesting to me unless they're full, quality romhacks (a la Raocow's Let's Plays). I might consider a few of the pokemon hacks (i actually know a store that stocks them), but ultimately, I try not to support pirate roms because it's just plain shady most of the time, rather than a labor of fandom/love. It just seems cheap and lazy.

FDS is enough reason for me to get a famicom, honestly. It's like trying to pull teeth to get it to run on a model 1 NES and im not even sure if it works on a NES2.

Zelda II, Metroid and I think Kid Icarus all sound vastly different from their NES counterparts. Plus you can save, which is pretty neat and makes Metroid a little less hard, imo.

Regardless, if you're gonna collect pokemon games and stuff, then you def. need to get the pikachu n64. That thing is cute as hell.

I collect Lego. Yes it may seem childish for a 29 year old to collect a child's toy, but who doesn't like Lego?

Anyway I have been collecting Lego City sets primarily since 2004. I also like to collect the old Lego Town sets from the 80's and 90's. I have a couple videos on YouTube which show what I have which I will link here for anyone interested to have a look at.

This shows the city layout I've been working on all year. It's taken that long cause I work on it as and when, as in, as and when I have the funds available.

This shows all my sets and MOC's (my own creations) displayed on my bookcases.
